FT48X VTX Issues?
#1
Hi,

Has anyone had experiance with the FT48X video transmitter? I've had three die in quick succession.

One was working on the bench, then I noticed sometime later it had died (no lights when powered up, the LCD display does not light up, no video signal). I'd only hovered the quad in my backyard a couple of times to make sure everything was working.

The other two both flew a couple of 3S flights (maidening two brand new builds), then flew a pack on 4S and died on landing. When I touched down (not super smooth, but not a crash by any means), the video turned to snow, and there's no lights , etc on the VTX again.

Bit unhappy that all three expired after less than 20 minutes flight time. Has anyone had experience with these VTXs? Is this a common problem? The VTX is wired direct to the PDB, no capacitor, is that a problem? Any assistance would be appreciated, thanks!

Odd, as it's rated for 6 to 25 volts so connected directly to your PDB shouldn't be a problem. And it has a 5 star rating with 114 positive reviews so what you're experiencing is not a common problem. Only 2 things that I can think of is incorrect wiring or powering it up without the antenna connected. (This will fry a VTX in a matter of seconds)

I could be wrong, but I don't think the wiring is at fault. It's not wired backwards, and worked perfectly on 3S. None of the VTX's were ever switched on without an antenna attached (I'm aware of that trap). As I said, it flew perfectly, and did immediately on touchdown. I wondered if I should fit a voltage regulator, or LC filter in case it's dirty power on the PDB?

So I've ordered Aomway TX001's to replace the FT48X's. I'm thinking that instead of wiring these up to the PDB directly, that I'll put them on a 12v regulator to step down the voltage a bit, so their internal regular doesn't have to work as hard. Also thinking of wiring up the FPV camera to a separate 5v supply rather than using the 5v on the VTX, again to reduce the load on the VTX. Does this sound like a reasonable course of action, or am I being over cautious here?

I have 2 of these and have had no issues...other than the wiring going to the camera being wrong with the positive and negative wires being reversed in the servo connector.

Both of my FT48X's are running straight off the main flight battery. They have a built in LC filter and my video is crystal clear.

I only had 1 FT48X died mid air once for no reason. It was powered direct from the 4s battery. I did manage to get a replacement though and had no further issues with them.

For me aomway 200mW it's a great option.
My aomway worked without antenna 15 minutes Smile

More than 300 flights  Smile
