This is just a mini review. I am not going to post photos, there are plenty on the web. Going to give my impressions, and things I like and dislike.
I had the TX for over a month. When I first got it, I thought it would be Apple-ish quality. Kind of a let down. But don't get me wrong, it is still well built. Switches, gimbals and pots are solid. We will talk about switches and gimbal later.
It was much lighter than I expected. I flight just holding the TX, no strap. Not an issue holding the TX. I don't have large hands either. For the surgeons out there, I wear a size 7 gloves.
The gimbals are nice. The throttle has clicks, which makes keeping the throttle steady much easier. After awhile, you forget the clicks are even there.
The switches feel solid. Little wiggle room. And most switches are 3-ways. Considering that my last TX only have one, I really don't know what to do with all the switches. There is even a 6 ways switch.
So this has a color screen. Probably don't need it, but I have to say it is nice. As far as wash out in the sunlight, I have not had an issue. Honestly, I rarely even look at the screen. But setting up at home, it is nice to look at color.
It has three antennas. Two internal and one external. You can't use both at one, you have to select which one to use. The internal antennas are good enough that I took off the external. It is great to not have an external flopping around.
The biggest complaint everyone has is the charging. There is no battery hitch, so you can't remove the battery easily and charge. You have to use their charger, which is a external module with an USB-C connection. Unfortunately, the USB-C port is not standard. You can't just plug any USB-C charger and charge it. Their external charger doesn't stay connected very well. Sometimes it disconnects. The charging is poorly thought out. But for me, I can live with it. The battery last long enough, I have never drained the TX in a flight session.
Compared to my Turnigy 9XR Pro with XJT, this TX established connections to RX so much more consistent. A lot of time, when I am switching lipo on the quad, I have to power cycle the Turnigy for it to reconnect. The X10S, it is on all the way through.
I am currently using FrOS and not OpenTX. I am waiting for official OpenTX release. FrOS is actually not bad. I had to figure out how to setup everything, because there isn't much written as far as guides. But I have been able to do everything I wanted. All my verbal warnings works. Things like setting up low battery warnings and RSSI warnings are so easy. They are all built-in. You do not even have to use logic switches. Last time I read Oscar blog for settings up low battery warning, it consists of about 8 logic switches.
Overall, I have been happy with it. I heard a revision version is coming out soon that addresses the charging issue. If you can wait, I would. If you can't wait, go for it. You will not regret it. Good luck finding one in stock, especially with the holidays coming up.
