Frsky Horus... need to understand more!
#1
Hi guys,

I've always been tempted buying a Frsky Horus X10 Express 24ch (which I suppose should be the last version); I love design and colors, I read great things about it's OS and also regarding the feeling in hands.... but there are many things I don't understand.

I'm using a TX16S with TBS Crossfire Micro V2 and all my four quads are equipped with NanoRX. Switching to the Horus, will I face problems with CRSF module ? Will I get limitations ? Do I have to consider complex mods to get it fully working ? In other words I found a lot of confusing information regarding Frsky and CRSF and I can't figure out which is the actual situation!

Other downsides I should take in consideration apart from CRSF ?

Thank you in advance.

Yes there is. I have the Horus x10 express. It has worked very well, very good stick control and a good feel to it. I’m not sure about the crossfire module working on it because I use the RM92019 module. I can say this that the firmware updates are a little easier do to the programming over the air. However the instructions, manuals are a mess. There is no support from Frsky, I’m still waiting months for a reply. I did manage to get it sorted out with help from Snowlepord but it was several conversations to finally get everything working. That said I think it’s a good radio with bad support. Many people feel burned by Frsky that had bought earlier radios. Since the Horus does both formats the access and the accst it’s not as big a problem. I’m still up in the air about whether I’d do it again. I really like the radio, it just is a lot of fuss getting to understand it. I wish I knew how to link one of my older posts so you could see what it took for me to get working. You might be able to see my old post about it if you look under my username? I had no problem using the accst receivers..the problems started when they came out with the access format.

Yes, thank you, I will read your previous post regarding that.

It's disappointing that one of the best hardware around has such problems... in addition I need to be sure regarding CRSF which is another question mark...

By the way, is the Frsky custom OS very different from OpenTX ?

I have not tried open Tx yet. The Frsky OS has worked just fine for me. I haven’t really gotten into all the programming stuff yet. It was enough for me just to get the quads in the air.

The Horus 10X is a nice radio. I have both the Horus and Radiomaster, and the quality is much better on the Horus. You will be faced with two things that you need to do before getting Crossfire to work on the Horus.

1. Install OpenTX. Not difficult.
2. Mod the inverter chip to allow the higher baudwidth.
