Frsky 8 with elrs
#1
I have a jumper rc t20s on its way and it has Elrs but also frsky capable among many others. I'm new to fpv and only have had cam drones but I've recently had purchased I tinkhawk 3 that is frsky 8. Will I be able to use my t20s frsky for this tiny whoop or does it not have a capacity for that low of a version. Also do I need to get the 4in1 external module to run frsky on my t20s. I'm really struggling to find an answer without having to decode what I'm told.

Firstly, your Transmitter.

Being in the US, your Tx should not be Listen Before Transmit Euro, but unless you have modified it, should be ETHOS operating system.

This has a built-in TD 900M/2.4G Dual-Band Internal RF Module Supports Multiple Working Modes:-

2.4G ACCST D16 Mode (Compatible with ACCST Receivers with D16 V2 or later FW)
2.4G ACCESS Mode (Compatible with ACCESS Receivers)
900M ACCESS Mode (Compatible with ACCESS R9 868/915MHz Receivers)
(*Capable of simultaneous working under ACCESS mode)
2.4G & 900M TD Mode (Compatible with TD Receivers)

Note D8 (please use the prefix "D", it helps recognition) is NOT listed.

However, the Tandem X20 Series includes a rear Lite version module bay to offer more options to connect external devices. The external Lite module bay supports R9M Lite, R9M PRO Lite, XJT Lite, etc.

The way I read this is that you will need a rear mounted module capable of D8 mode, and will have to set the Tx to be in External mode to output via that module. I do not have a T20S, I stopped further FrSky with three X12S, all of which have modules and run OpenTX operating system.

The module you choose will need to output 2.4G ACCST D8 Mode.

I'll not be specific, but some countries only legally allow older (legacy) Transmitters to still output D8 and a lot of other older formats such as Spektreum DSM2. This is why its not included in the standard output list.

Its your responsibility and choice to seek and comply, or not!

Incidentally the reason why in Euro Zone these formats were outlawed was that they blast out signal across the band before settling on free channels, a POTENTIAL (if a lot of the time very remote) issue in dense 2.4GHz urban environments. Later formats do not output until they have checked!

The OP is talking about a Jumper T20S transmitter, not an FrSky X20S transmitter.

@OP - As already mentioned in reply to your other post (HERE), you will need an external JP4IN1 multiprotocol module if you want to use the Jumper T20S transmitter with an FrSky D8 equipped quad. The internal ExpressLRS module on the T20S can only bind to ELRS receivers.

Cheapest option is to buy a Radiomaster T8 Lite. They cost about $40. They do D8 or D16 only and range wise on mine I can fly about 100-200m.

Probably not what you want to hear. But I'd keep the Jumper. This will not be the only drone you ever buy. You will probably fly that TH3 for a couple of months and then want to move up to bigger, less proprietary things. At that point you will want an ELRS radio.

This is what you need to run the Frsky D8 protocol: https://www.jumper-rc.com/jumper-jp4in1s...p0118.html
