Yup, it's dead. Part of learning I guess. Bought a new omnibus F3 instead, I figured might as well screw up a cheaper board.

You really should also invest in a simple multimeter before the next flight controller arrives. Then you can check the voltage before you connect it to the flight controller!

Would the smoke stopper have helped in this situation as well?

More than likely Wink Especially with the low pass version.

I just use aligator clips and separate bulbs.

Here's the SmokeStopper thread from our forums. (with credits and links to original content as well)

Not to take away from learning how to use a Multimeter though. Tongue

Not sure if that kind of smokestopper could protect a 5V circuit from too high battery voltage... It limits current but not voltage, right?

For testing fc stuff i always use a 4-cell nimh pack.

Nope. Smoke stoppers are great for short circuits and odd wiring external to chips on the board but won't prevent the 14.8v into a 5v input rom frying everything in its path.

I can understand how the OP came to do this, documentation on all these boards is pretty scant and many conventions aren't followed consistently. How is someone meant to always get the distinction between (Vin, 5v, V+, Bat+, Vsens,Vcc,Power,Battery etc etc) sure some are obvious, but some are pretty subtle.

For the next ne this is a great playlist of repairs, https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL...D7DNea6hIc.
And this one specifically for the problem you had,

Don't throw it away, you might be able to fix it, and learn a whole bunch in the process.
