FPV Slope Soaring with Runcam Split 2 & headtracking
#1

My FPV slope soaring game just got upgraded thanks to a Runcam Split 2. This HD footage is so much nicer to watch than my goggles' DVR stuff!

I didn't do any color correction, this was straight off the SD card, given a light edit to try to get some of the more exciting parts and include a soundtrack, and then straight to Youtube.

Thumbs Up Wow!  The head tracking is really cool!  Like "really" in the plane!

Was it difficult to learn, or did it seem natural?  Great stuff man!! Big Grin

Well, I think it's pretty natural, I mean you just look around, you know? Big Grin

It maybe takes a bit of getting used to, but having the nose of the glider in the frame made it feel really natural to me.

Also, I have hundreds if not thousands of hours in computer flight sims where headtracking is old hat, so the concept is totally comfortable for me. With that said, I think it is totally worth it and don't enjoy flying fixed wing FPV anywhere near as much without it.

Truly cool insight, thank you very much!
I agree with everybody that it's fascinating and definitely worth pursuing,
as well as there are a few points that I'd like to improve:
1. With induction or rf contact lenses, the goggles could scan the position of the pupil, adjusting the camera direction by it. Like that, you wouldn't have to contort your head, but could just gently move it just a little, but do the main work with the eyes.
2. I'd like to work on the smoothness of the camera movement, but think as well that it soon will not be a problem anymore: Bigger digital sensors will easily allow a big "crop" at any time, say a 4x4k sensor could allow 1080p movement by four screens without physically moving..
I'm just too impatient for that, so we should do some crazy lab experiment to forcefully "combine" (..as they sure as hell will not spontaneously) dji and runcam into one uniform genetic product  ROFL   Poop
Nah seriously, a split sensor w runcam owl sensitivity on a mavic pro gimbal... Whistling Heart Cool

However thanks again and keep it up in the air! Big Grin

We had our 15th annual WeaselFest fun fly this weekend, and had some great conditions yesterday at our beach site.

Lots of fun air-to-air shots thanks to the headtracking setup.
