Liftoff FTW. Constantly new content, the multiplayer community is easy enough to learn how to get along with, and its what feels the most comfortable to me personally. They still have work to do in order to be perfect but I think they're doing a good job of responding to the community for their priorities on what to work on.

I used to like DRL but now I cant even fly it... the physics feel like they're simulating a flying rock.
And FPVFreerider has a sort of turbo warp effect that seems almost silly to me.

I've tried a few others like hotprops and velocidrone but I had a tough time with radio calibration or just couldn't get things to load properly in some cases.

Funny, I had issues with setting up and calibrating HotProps (reversed roll channel and oh yeah, throttle curve ON THE TX Doh  ), then when I tried Velocidrone and it just worked straight off, hotprops feels a bit more like a 'proper' sim, than velocidrone, but velo' is just great to pick up and go, at least for my FlySky i6X TX.

I tried almost all of the sims and liftoff is the winner for me. It gives me most comfortable flying feeling at all. Even if the quad is kinda floaty, but overall, im happy with it. I Learn how to flight quad and acro on it.

I has many modes etc, but I mostly fly in freeflight and just learning some moves Smile

I am currently using Freerider with my Taranis Q x7 Tx and while I do like it I wish I could customize the maps. I tried Velocidrone but had a lot of problems calibrating my Tx. Although I haven't flown it Liftoff looks great and I will probably get that vs the full version of Velo.

I am hesitating to register, I am not sure it's free anymore?

It isn't free for a while now. Some time ago there was a trial version that allowed you to fly for 1 minute per session, not sure if it is available now.
Find me on Youtube and Instagram. I currently fly: DRC Aura, NOX5R, Minimalist 112 and drive a scrap RC car

Although simulators have their place, I think Oscar's best advice came at the end of his article. Go with a small quad that is very resistant to damage and learn new things on that prior to trying on your bigger quad. I used to use a simulator for learning new tricks on my helicopters. But the sim never was really right, so the learning process was not complete with a sim. But with a small collective pitch heli, like made by Blade, I could learn the movement and it was almost a direct link to how the larger heli would respond. Much closer feel than the sim. So, each to their own, but there is nothing like learning on the real thing. That's what I did when I started this FPV hobby. I bought a Blade Torrent. And I still go to it when I want to try something new. The sim does give you something to play with when the weather outside is not conducive to real flying....

If you have steam get liftoff. You can get a steam code for liftoff for 16bucks off the flitetest store.

Theres also velocidrone and drl. But IMO liftoff has the biggest userbase.

Theres also a couple of beta sims out there that are still being developed. One is Real Drone Simulator. Its currenly in preaplha so its really featureless and buggy

I tried the Velicidrone demo and was kind of meh on it. I liked what i read and the featureset of Liftoff and bought the full thing for $20. I'm glad i did! It's great and has everything i want. Fun game modes, customizable quads, good feel, etc. The developers also seem quite active with lots of updates and improvements.

If your limited by the hardware of your PC, Liftoff is quite a bit more demanding in terms of graphics. I only have a rubbish laptop, so I am limited to Velocidrone and only the empty scene, and stadium tracks otherwise my framerate drops through the floor. FYI as framerate drops so the feeling of 'floatyness' increases.
