FPV problem
#1
So yesterday I connected the last bits of my fpv setup in my first miniquad build.

When I turn on my Dominator V3 and miniquad It doesnt matter which channel i select , I mostly see static but also a slight silhouette of my hand waving in front of the camera. The image is also shifting from right to left. The whole image is black/white/gray static. No colors.

Goggles: Fatshark Dominator v3
vTX: ImmersionRC 200mw (set to 5740mhz)
vRx: Nexwave 5g8 Alpha 7 channel (Banggood)
FPV Camera: Runcam PZ0420M-L28

PDB: Naze32 PDB (Banggood)
Battery: 3s Turnigy 2200mah / 25c

Wiring setup:
I checked a couple of things:

So its not :

*the goggles. (got a hdmi signal from my pc)

*the camera not working (working when i connect it to the tv)

*the vTx not being powered (red led burning solid)

*the wrong channel (i checked all channels)
*the wrong band (the rTx only has one band and the band it has is compatible with the 5740mhz channel my vTx is set to)

Hi there, have you tried taking the LC filter out of the equation and try direct power and gnd?  Keeping in mind power voltage requirements your VTX and FPV cam needs.

Thanks for the quick response.

1. PDB: Naze32 PDB (Banggood)

2. No i did not yet try this for the camera yet. The fpv camera supports up to 4s (17v) voltage so i can try this i guess.

I am not familiar with that particular PDB but I had a similar problem on one of my quads and I found that on my PDB there was a OSD pin out, as I was not using a OSD I had to Bridge the OSD pinouts, Once I had done that I got full clear picture, Perhaps that is something on your PDB to look into.

Well i dont really use the PDB for that. I use a direct wire from my fpv cam to the vTx.

So the camera is powered, i also noticed it gets a little warm. Which is normal i guess.
I replaced the vRx. And i still got the same problem.

I do notice that when i put some stuff between my rx and tx antennas i see some interference lines. If i dont do that i see just a clear grey image. So I guess its sending a grey image now?

So now my next question is, should my multimeter read any voltages on the video wire? Cause my multimeter doesnt read any thing. 0 volts. Is this normal?

By the sound of it it's the VTX... Do you have another VTX you can test?

Alright. Well no. And iam afraid if i spend another 35 euros i need to wait 2 weeks for the product and then i discover the problem is not the vTx.
Are you sure? The LED on the ImmersionRC is solid red. Is this normal?

Alright so i connected the camera directly to the tv and goggles now with the same cable i normally connect to the vTX. I got no signal while if i use the other cable with AV connector that is shipped with the Runcam the camera works on the tv and the goggles. Maybe some wire is broken in the camera cable?

Can I rule out the VTX now?

EDIT:

I guess i did something wrong testing this. I did not connect the ground to the RCA connector. But even when trying this it doesnt work.
Though i got a 1 volt reading on the video cable.

Perfectly normal not to have have any voltage on the Video, as it is only the video signal wire.

Apart from changing the VTX as Oscar suggested you could also make sure that the ground wire from VTX and camera are on a common ground.  Connecting the cam to the VTX directly (providing the parts are good and both the VTX and Goggles are on the same Band and channel) should always show a image.

These are always niggly problems and are often very hard to diagnose on a forum.

Well i just teared up my whole setup and did it again like you said. Get the camera power from the vtx.
Its still not working. But I guess you guys cannot help me out with this.

Such a shame this has to be my first quadcopter build experience. :<

get one or two cheap eachine VTX from Banggood, they are less than $10 i think... good to have spare and can be used for testing... you will need some for your 2nd and 3rd quad anyway hehe Big Grin

Yes okay, i will look into that. Smile
I have a similar thread on RCG now for this problem.
Somebody told me that i need to turn the 4th dip switch to off, since its set to ON now.
So i will try this. But in the manual of ImmersionRC 600mw it doesnt say the 4th dip switch is important for channel selection.

So I am curious where this 4th dip switch is for and ofcourse if i can get the stuff to work tonight.
I also emailed ImmersionRC

Hmm so okay this is the explanation.
I have a RaceBand edition which supports a second range of frequencies by changing the 4th dipswitch.
I only have thrown away the package with the thaughts that i surely could find a manual online. -.-
Good hopes.
