romangpro, what do you know about that gyro?

JB’s take on that gyro:

...understand it's the new now and all but, wish it had mpu6000, seems golden otherwise.

I still keep seeing people having issues with the ICM42688 gyro. So i am personally avoiding them and favouring AIO's that use BMI270 or even (in the case of the Darwin 15A) ICM20689. I'm more of a "better the devil you know" type attitude when it comes to this stuff. What i fly runs on MPU6000, ICM20689 or BMI270 and they work well.

The other issue is it's bloody expensive for a 12A AIO. Over here it's nearly £90. You can buy a 2-4S 20A AIO FC for £50 (TuneRC Poly F405 or CrazyF411) or go up to a 40A F722 HAKRC or 60A F722 Aikon for around the same amount.

Yeah, as much as I like Flywoo, their boards can be pretty pricy. The Happymodel X12 has been a pretty great board for 1-2S stuff so far, and the ICM20689 has been excellent as well. Just can't figure out what I'd need more than 2-3 UARTs for on a tiny quad for. That goes double if I'm just using Betaflight where extra sensors don't really do much.

I would have to agree with Suros. That is rather pricy for a 1-2s FC. I also see no reason for that many UARTs on such a small build.

My problem with the Happymodel X12 (I have a couple of them) is that where the camera plugs in on the side of the board always wants to make contact with the duct on whoop frames.

Yeah, the plug should've gone on the opposite side of the board and faced straight up. It's not like there isn't room under the canopy.

Aside from the price and gyro, I think it would help make a nice light micro analog setup since the vtx is built in along with ELRS.

AFAIK, 5 in1 "AIO" do too much. Everything is usually too squeezed together.

A separate receiver is better. - what if you run FrSky or 915Mhz..

A seperate VTX is definetly better. What if you run digital

Depends on the build. If you were going to run digital you would probably pick one of the new FC that is optimised for digital, ie ,no OSD chips, DJI connector for plug and play. If you run some unusual rx on your quad, you would probably use the TuneRC board, as that gives more amp headroom, has the 5 uarts and comes in an F405 package. Not to mention it costs less and is favoured by a few of the top small builders and pilots.

I don't see where an expensive 12A AIO FC fits in nowadays, when a multitude of 12A and 20A FC exist that are generally cheaper and well liked by people in the community. Flywoo products almost come over like a unicorn in the community. i honestly don't know if they are trying sell them based on reputation over actual real world facts and testing, or they think people are stupid enough to pay more when good quality products exist that aren't as pricey. Maybe it's sold and marketed to the fangirls/boys.

In the end does it work for you? If it is still working in 6-12 months, then it is probably worth it as a purchase. That is how I boil down all my purchases. I crashed my HM Cine8/Twiglet rebuild into a rock floor at about 30mph and the only thing that broke was an arm on the frame. So for me that represents a very good purchase that seems damned near bulletproof after many crashes. Where as some people might buy a drone, crash it into the ground and everything is dead on the first hit, so that represents a bad product to me. Only you can judge whether you feel spending that much on an FC was worth it.

Sorry that was kind of longwinded.
