Flying with broken FC standoffs, ALL 4!
#1
So The Japalura developed a little twitchiness...like totally slight after a crash last weekend.  I have not flown it since Sunday after it took a rough tumble at my field.  Decided to fly the yard and noticed a little bit of unsettled behavior, but figured it was just the breeze.  Flew like three packs that I had charged and brought it inside to update a few OSD settings on ButterFlight configurator.

When plugging in the USB cable, the entire FC felt loose.  Close exam and I find a broken standoff...no wait, there are two...three...oh, all 4 are sheered!   Dodgy   The only thing holding the FC in the craft are the ESC wirings!  Confused

ButterFlight, the smooooooooothest around Big Grin

I am replacing the standoffs now, but I cannot believe how well it flew with a free floating FC! Cool  Truly, the ultimate "soft mount" possible! Whistling

HAHA nice one Kaity, I have a slightly similar soft mounting (for want of a better word) "solution". The standoffs for my 4-in-1 ESC have really long threads, so the upper standoffs that hold the FC in place won't tighten all the way, and I couldn't be bothered to pull it apart and trim them down. Now the wires for FPV and RX are providing some "suspension/ shock absorption" for the FC!!

Ok, so now we need someone to shear their standoffs on a FC running Betaflight to compare. The "Real" test ROFL

You could use Military Communication cable for the wiring on the ESC's and never worry with breaking the wires off for your soft mount/ sheared standoffs! LOL

That wiring is indestructible and probably pull the solder tabs off the FC circuit board.

LOL, as it is, the small FC board did not move enough to cause any sort of flight issue until pushed with tighter manuevering...the ESC wires alone were enough to hold it in place for almost all of the flying that I did.  My first thought when I noted the twitchy behavior was that I had somehow reset my PIDs.

That is amazing you were still able to fly. One heck of a way to test how well you had the ESC wiring tied down with little to no slack! Smile

Do you say this jokingly, but a guy at my local group that races flies his betaflight raceing 5-7” quads just like this, no standoff’s. I think they secured the wires to the frame to keep it from ripping out when in a crash.
But this guy has the standoff’s out on most of his quads, he said it made it super smooth handling, just very fragile.
