My wife has a massage table and I could lay face down with the controller hanging from my neck. I'd bet it would really feel like flying. Your post made me laugh when I imagined someone taking the massage table to the field to fly I also struggle to fly standing. I start losing balance and then lose focus from flying because I start to focus on not falling down. Folding chair or sitting down with crossed legs jedi style works well for me. • Posts: 146 Threads: 10 Likes Received: 37 in 24 posts Likes Given: 15 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 4 (15-Sep-2016, 05:53 PM)varkokonyi Wrote: Did anyone try lying down? Back or stomach? Sounds like fun Actually yeah I did try it on my back. Funny thing is what bothered me about it wasn't an equilibrium thing at all. it was more about the position my hands were in holding my Taranis. I'm very particular about the angle it hangs off the strap. Just have to point it out cause it had me laughing so hard but the wording of this replay was almost posted sounding way more provocative than it does now haha • Posts: 46 Threads: 11 Likes Received: 2 in 1 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: May 2016 Reputation: 2 (15-Sep-2016, 05:53 PM)varkokonyi Wrote: Did anyone try lying down? Lately Ive taken to just standing up in the middle of the field. I'd say I prefer standing to sitting. It is an odd feeling to do circles around yourself and see it in the goggles. Its a whole lot of fun. • Posts: 634 Threads: 56 Likes Received: 335 in 196 posts Likes Given: 183 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 15 i prefer to stand... this is related to gazilion of ants on most of spots im flying when you sitdown... you will stand VERY fast All the best Grzesiek (Grisha/ Greg) Curently flyable: Nox 5, Minimalist 112 Bench / in progres: fixing Nox 3, Scrap thinking about building: 450 • Posts: 918 Threads: 83 Likes Received: 533 in 271 posts Likes Given: 498 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 30 (17-Sep-2016, 04:38 PM)Grisha0 Wrote: i prefer to stand... this is related to gazilion of ants on most of spots im flying when you sitdown... you will stand VERY fast LOL..I can relate to that... I prefer sitting down...but on one occasion I had placed my chair (unaware at the time) right on top of an ants nest. Just started flying when all of a sudden my crotch area was being attacked by a whole heap of ants... just dropped the radio, got up and started doing a fast version of the DJI dance, and slapping the hell out of my crotch area. The quad vanished into shubbery, and I meanwhile had my pants around my ankles trying to deal with 1 billion ants trying to eat me alive. Lesson learned that day...never ever put your chair on or near an ants nest. • Posts: 114 Threads: 17 Likes Received: 68 in 28 posts Likes Given: 27 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 12 I really depends on you as a person. Some of the fastest pilots I know would never be able to fly standing up - they just get too into it and sway around too much - the chair is barely keeping them in I myself, started sitting only but have been practicing standing up for a few months, and progressively gotten better. Right now, I prefer sitting but I can perform as good standing up, unless fatigue kicks in (I have a bad left leg from an old motorcycle accident). The only problem standing up is, I get emotional and on a really good flights, my left leg starts shaking a bit. Here is what helped me get more comfortable standing up: Start by leaning your body on something solid - wall or a tree. That will help you feel grounded. Progressively, lean less of your body as you get comfortable - just the waist down, just one leg, just one leg from knee down, etc. Right now I feel perfectly grounded if the tip of my shoe touches a tree or a bench or a solid sizable object I know of. Hope that helps. • Posts: 634 Threads: 56 Likes Received: 335 in 196 posts Likes Given: 183 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 15 as for flying while standing, 1. ensure you stand on firm ground and you will not slip during the flight (seems obvious, guess how i've learned that) 2. ensure your legs are spread similar to your shoulders - most stable 3. if you have option lean on something 4. try to find a flat spot for you to stand feet on the same level 5. get a camera to film you - you will see what you do during the flight ( and most probably die out of self laughter while watching ) All the best Grzesiek (Grisha/ Greg) Curently flyable: Nox 5, Minimalist 112 Bench / in progres: fixing Nox 3, Scrap thinking about building: 450 • Posts: 391 Threads: 23 Likes Received: 50 in 41 posts Likes Given: 56 Joined: Feb 2016 Reputation: 8 I sat down for the first time today flying and everything was much easier to control. Throttle control was easier, I didn't gain altitude when I didn't want it and flying through things was easier. I practice occasionally, mainly so I'll have the flexibility of flying either way, depending on the environment & situation. Leaning against something (like a tree) does make it much easier, requiring less CPU (brain) resources to be dedicated to balancing. • Posts: 22 Threads: 2 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 0 lol, funny thread, not much to add really but has anyone tried flying whilst doing a head stand ? • Posts: 1,149 Threads: 50 Likes Received: 704 in 450 posts Likes Given: 1,189 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 30 23-Sep-2016, 05:01 PM (This post was last modified: 23-Sep-2016, 05:05 PM by fftunes.) Especially sitting/kneeling on ground near high grass can bring you close to rx failsafe or video loss. The only advice i can give for standing whilst flying is: take a wide stance - wider than your shoulders. I never had problems with swaying though, in fact when i move my head while flying, i feel like something's wrong with the quad, as if it was moving too. But then again i have more than 30 years of video gaming experience where the TV/PC screen hardly ever moves EDIT: lol just remembered my mother making fun of me when i shook my ass while playing street fighter II arcade as a 9-year old... • Posts: 1,290 Threads: 67 Likes Received: 713 in 473 posts Likes Given: 1,216 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 23 (16-Sep-2016, 05:00 PM)sirdude Wrote: I can fly standing or sitting, doesn't make any difference, I'm no good at it either way!! While the above statement is true, to clarify, if I'm flying LOS, I stand, FPV I sit. "Damn the torpedoes!!! Full speed ahead!!!" • |
