You put the finger on a weak spot - getting decent Lipos @ acceptable prices is sort of an issue in CH..

Tell me about it. I live in a country where you can't buy a bottle of wine on a Sunday or public holiday because the government runs all the shops that sell alcohol and deliberately makes the opening times inconvenient.

yeah... no dice on stills, Sunday purchase, or privately owned stores in about 1/3rd of the US... especially on the east coast. It seems someone forgot to tell several of these states that prohibition ended a long time ago :p they're like "yeah, well we're still staying partially prohibition" because they can... Experiments of democracy and all that stuff.

I ran into some of that nonsense on my trips to the States before. I couldn't even get a beer at my hotel on a Sunday, but if I walked to the other side of the street, that was in a different parish and all the bars and liquor stores were open as usual.

Quite a bizarre experience for a visitor!

..I don't get it, really! - I know about these "weird" laws pretty much everywhere, but upon closer inspection, they're just leftovers from our feudal past. I understand a king not giving a rat's ass about his taxpayer's fate, leaving them to starve on the fields in order to finance his new hermelin-coat, he was just an inbred turd, but hey!, that was in the darkest times of European history, the middle age!! It seems to be like Einstein said: "I know of two things being infinite, the universe and human greed, but I'm not so sure on the first one.."
It appears to be a question of character and not political belief. Especially left-wing politicians develop astounding ways of sporting "humanistic rhethorics" while shamelessly feeding on the work of others. I don't approve terrorism, but I fear it being nature's counterforce to hypocrisy and bigotry. 'nuff said, or I seriously heat up.
Distilleries are really nice things, though, it's part of my Italian culture..  As kids, we were served red wine diluted with lemonade in wide, shallow pottery bowls as a tradition at social events, and you just couldn't drink from that unless you'd be really focused and - sort of - sober. Pretty neat indicator, looking back..

Of course, these days, the fact that the government can earn a small fortune from the alcohol monopoly ensures that you'll never get any Swedish government to contemplate abolishing it. They only ever frame discussion about it in terms of limiting supply to help people not to drink too much. Oh, and they also run all the gambling in Sweden as a monopoly as well.

Double morals are an art form here!
