I need to have a twin to my Floss for race days when I break something (which I do quite often). Same basic setup and motors but with some different components on the stack. I'm going to try a new ESC Spedix just came out with that looks very promising. On my current Floss I used the Hobbywing X-Rotor 40amp ESC and it is the only quad I have that has massive video noise. On the little 3" I just built I used a 20amp Spedix and the video is crystal clear without any cap. The X-Rotor needed a cap just to get the noise level to a place where it wasn't interfering with flying and it wasn't a cheap stack. As long as I keep the same frame and motors it should have similar flying characteristics so no big differences when I have to switch up. Only toy quads I kept are that and the little Hubsan 107c in front of it next to my 2.5", gave the rest away. The 107c was my first so I kept it for nostalgia more than anything else, haven't flown it for quite a while. Used the 501ss a few weeks ago for target practice sort of. Parked it in the sky while I flew around it and got some video. The camera on it isn't very good and points downward. I tried flying it FPV a long time ago and when you move forward all you can see is the ground, you have to keep stopping to see where you are at. Here's a sample of what I ended up with. And I'm always a sucker for a consistent colour scheme! They start out with a color scheme but along the way with repairs it doesn't always stay that way. • Posts: 373 Threads: 29 Likes Received: 279 in 168 posts Likes Given: 242 Joined: Nov 2017 Reputation: 6 After much back and forth in my head I made a change on the FC I'm going to use and decide to try the Hyperlite F4 OSD https://www.getfpv.com/hyperlite-f4-osd.html on this build. Looks like it'll make a clean build and has plenty of accessible UARTS. Got the frame in and the rest of the parts ordered. Probably won't be ready for this weekend due to lack of time but soon. Posts: 1,773 Threads: 30 Likes Received: 1,199 in 755 posts Likes Given: 714 Joined: Oct 2016 Reputation: 45 Diggin' the canopy. Very neat job Posts: 3,533 Threads: 265 Likes Received: 2,610 in 1,545 posts Likes Given: 3,893 Joined: Feb 2018 Reputation: 78 I agree with SL, very nice clean work so far. And your solder joints look good too..... Posts: 373 Threads: 29 Likes Received: 279 in 168 posts Likes Given: 242 Joined: Nov 2017 Reputation: 6 Thanks. I was afraid they might stick up too much since I had to get quite an angle to go over the heat sink. I'm doing a bottom mount battery so I wanted to make sure the motor wires were well out of the way. If this hadn't worked out I could do it from the outside but they would be more vulnerable. Got everything tested and configured except for the video system. All motors check out fine and direction has been set, RX is bound and TX configured. Been taking my time and doing other chores in between while I listen to the thunder outside knowing that I could be out flying. • |
