I checked for continuity with a multimeter and everything seemed alright, no beeps. When I plugged the quad in, i saw smoke, and the kombini was unresponsive. Please help! • Posts: 2,286 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,527 in 995 posts Likes Given: 1,881 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 72 Can't help without pictures of how you wired everything up and pictures of the flight controller. There may be some smart and helpful people here, but we're not mind readers or remote vision mystics, so you have to give us something to work with. • Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,738 in 2,835 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 Hindsight is 20/20, but a smoke stopper is a must. As unseen mentioned, send us some pics Personally never used a smoke stopper and never fried anything, I find focusing and double checking with multi-meter to be adequate • Posts: 2,286 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,527 in 995 posts Likes Given: 1,881 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 72 • Posts: 2,416 Threads: 51 Likes Received: 1,861 in 1,175 posts Likes Given: 3,315 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 74 (02-Oct-2017, 07:51 AM)unseen Wrote: You will regret that complacency one day, it's only a matter of time. Not sure that's complacency....("focus and double-checking" sounds anything but). One could argue that using a smoke-stopper is complacent - if you use it so you don't have to focus or use a multimeter... Even if you've double checked everything visually and checked for shorts with your multimeter, there's still the chance of missing something or making a mistake. I'm just as careful about inspecting everything with my microscope and checking for shorts before I power up for the first time, but I still use my current limited bench supply for the first power up, just in case! You may be so good at being careful that you'll never use it... but if there is that one time that you run into catastrophe you'll either regret not having it or be grateful that you did have it. When taking your pics it'll be easier if the FC is exposed btw (take off top of frame). It's probably obvious but I figured I'd mention it just to save time just in case... sort of like picture insurance! carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 Posts: 5 Threads: 2 Likes Received: 6 in 3 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Sep 2017 Reputation: 0 just a quick add-on to the original topic: do you guys recommend the bulb-type of smoke stopper or the fuse-type? i've built one of each, but not sure which to employ.... • Posts: 17 Threads: 3 Likes Received: 5 in 3 posts Likes Given: 2 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 0 (02-Oct-2017, 05:13 AM)voodoo614 Wrote: Hindsight is 20/20, but a smoke stopper is a must. Agreed. Take the time to make one. Well worth it. It has save me from the "Magic Smoke" a few times. • Posts: 307 Threads: 18 Likes Received: 69 in 48 posts Likes Given: 33 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 9 (13-Oct-2017, 04:09 PM)aeroluxifer Wrote: just a quick add-on to the original topic: do you guys recommend the bulb-type of smoke stopper or the fuse-type? i've built one of each, but not sure which to employ.... If you are using a bulb and you have a short it will light up, very easy to see, and it will recover automatically if you try it again after you fixed it. A fuse will melt and you have to replace it every time, also a bulb can give some power to start correctly up. If you have a high inrush current it will break directly, the bulb will only glow for a short time. • |
