Flight controller: direct solder or header pins for motor outputs?
#1
Just got my new flight controller the dodo... I am wondering should I solder my ESC directly on the motor pins, or use header pins?

Sometimes there is just no room for headers

Direct is honestly the way to be for any mini quads, I even removed them from the X4R receiver and direct soldered.

Headers pins take up a huge amount of space, get knocked around in crashes, and wear out quickly.
Plus, if you ever going to remove the header pins, there is a great chance of damaging the board if done incorrectly

Direct soldering ESC signal and ground to the FC, gives the best flexibility, its an easy solder job, even when needing to remove all.

I use headers on some others not. Find them just as easy to work with. Inwards facing pins for me thought.

i know direct solder save weight... but header pins allows you easily reuse the board somewhere else... so i vote for head pins

I like low profile pins so you can easily connect and disconnect.

Or you can do a hybrid, direct solder receiver and FC , using header esc and FC with only 4 signal pin... like this

I love to share and help people! Flying Mini Quad is the best!

That is a really neat build especially with so little room.
Current quad: ZMR 250 / DYS SE2205 / Littlebee 20A ESCs / Drone Lab 1500 4S / Naze32 Rev5 / BF 2.7.1
FPV: Runcam Skyplus / Aomway 200mw VTX / Fatshark DomV1
