Flashing of Silab ESC that miss bootloader
#1
Hello ladies. A big fan of Oscars blog, I recently purchased the Racerstar 25a BLHeli S ESC.

Unfortunately they don't come with a bootloader so I cannot acces them let alone flash or change them.
On Oscars page there is a post about resolving this with Atmel based ESC.

How do I do it with Silab ESC like these?

Thanks. Philip

Didn't know that do 25A, i know they have 20A and 30A. Can you take a picture of the ESC PCB?
Very unusual that they don't come with bootloader. What makes you think they don't have bootloader installed?

Hey Oscar, that's fast.

Well I received the ESC last week, here is the link :
http://m.banggood.com/4X-Racerstar-MS-Se...89007.html

And I tried to read them through Raceflight as I have done a hundred times with my XM20a. That didn't work and gave an "error" for all 4 ESC.

Then I tried passtrough with Cleanflight and Betaflight and no acces possible in BLHeli suite ( latest version )

Then tried the USB linker directly for SimonK or BLHeli bootloader and nothing works. Only errors and timeout in BLHeli suite.

I then contacted the seller and they wrote me they don't come with a bootloader. Nice, now I can't acces them not flash or change settings.

As they seem to be rebranded ZTW Polaris 25a and run Silabs chip. I would like to load a BLHeli bootloader on it, but don't know how.

Do I need an Arduino Uno or Nano or use my FTDI adapter?

How do I post a picture?

I too have the same issue with emax 12As and would like to also learn how to flash a bootloader to them as to be able to utilize the betaflight pass thru method of configuring the ESCs via blheli suite.

McGover - do you have EMax Nanos?

In either case you'll end up having to use an Arduino to connect to them with on their "C2" interface - flash them with a boot loader via BLHeli and then you can flash via the signal wire like normal. You may need to make a pull-up harness for the 1-wire flashing process too. I cobbled together a really average description and set of links on my Blog http://excesstext.com/2016/10/16/problem...nano-escs/ - I should really complete it but having just written off one of my ESCs I'm shopping for replacements anyhow.

Just flash BLHeli via C2 to them, after that they will have a bootloader. I don't think they really have no bootloader, probably they have locked flash, rendering bootloader non-functional.
When you're at it (C2 flashing), please perform a complete dump of their flash memory, 8192 bytes starting from address 0, and attach there. I would like to investigate what's actually wrong.

These are MS series, rebranded ZTW Polaris, come in 15/25/35. The one's you're talking about are RS series, rebranded Sunrise Cicada.
