First time first build powering-up
#1
Hi all,
I ordered parts for my first build and I have a question while I wait for them to arrive.
In the original rcgroups thread about the smoke stopper linked here http://intofpv.com/t-how-to-make-a-smoke...lectronics, it can be read "A 4S pack at approx 50% 'storage charge' appears to be safe [...] I have blown the bulb using freshly-charged 4S pack so I reccomend against it".
I only ordered 4S batteries and to power up the mini quad for the first time I'm going to use a 12V 3A DC adapter like this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/DC12V-Ad...0.0.XzZEk7 with an added DC to XT60 plug.

This seems a perfect solution to me, anybody has a different opinion ?

Thanks,

Beppe

Don't know if that adapter produces enough amps, you may blow a fuse. Just use a 4S at storage voltage.

It's a 3 ampere adapter while the smoke stopper current limitation is 0.5 ampere ( low current testing ) or 2.5 ampere ( high current testing ).

The bulb in the link doesn't allow enough amp. 12V 26W rated bulb at 4S only allows 1.54A. You want roughly 2-3A. So look for a 14V bulb with 30-ish watts if you still want to use your smoke stopper.

Thanks for replies.
You say 1.54 A, but I don't catch that.

These are my calculations:
Bulb rate: 27 W / 7 W
Current = Power / Voltage
Current at low power = 7 W / 12 V = 0.58 A
Current at high power = 27 W / 12 V = 2.25 A

If, as I suppose but I must verify, when bulb is operating at rated 27 W or 7 W only one filament is used, then with the 2 bulb filaments soldered in parallel in the smoke stopper the total maximum allowed current will be: 34 W / 12 V = 2.83 A and this, probably, could be enough. If not I agree that a more powerful bulb is needed.

Remember you are using 4S, which is 16.8V. So, 27W/16.8V = 1.60A. I thought the bulb was 26W. That is why I got 1.54. Regardless, 1.6A is still to little.

During testing I'm not using a 4S battery that could blow the bulb that has nominal operating 12 V voltage, I'm using a 12V 3A DC adapter.
