First outdoor flight
#1
Well I had my first flight outdoors with my Diatone GT200

Ok im going to admit ,(as I dont mind laughing at my own stupiditiy), I put my props on upside down I was nervous ok !!. As i throttled up my quad attempted to drill for oil as grass and muck flew ito the air and it got into all sort of shapes lol. I was frantically pulling switchs in panic hoping to disarm it?

Then i realised my folly and corrected the problem.

Now ready and throttle up to a nice hover...couple of minor manouvers and upside down bouncing around on the ground bending both antennas.

Couple of minutes checking my quad and off we go again.. Another crash , but now covering the disarm switch in case, so no serious damage and props still intact.....and on it went a further five minor crashes but punching out of tthe serious situations and starting to enjoy this.

I went home with my gt200 in one piece and a cut finger from a prop edge while tightening onto motor.

This is going to take some serious time and practice but funny as I cannot wait till the next outing?

Anyone else willing to admit stupid stuff as it is quite funny how nerves mess with your brain ?

Glad you came home in one piece. Always a victory when that happens.

Here is something that will happen with tighten props.

Ohhh man!! Stupidity you say? I have you covered!

1. Had not figured out disarm switch, put controller in pit of arm, controller slid down and pegged throttle while in hand. Hurts
2. Tried to powerloop a tree and got stuck
3. Despite having KNOWN random receiver issues, I flew over a cornfield. Took over 2 hours to find it. Luckily battery was fresh and ESCs beeped until I found her. (f*ck corn)
4.Tried to pull a GapIt and take off down a slide, accidentally gave her a touch too much juice and beaned the covered playground ceiling
5. While showing off to a coworker who now flies, forgot to check the new firmware I just loaded and tried to take off. Board orientation was forgotten and it did the coolest piroutte of death, annihilating all of the props, cutting the battery cords, and causing a small fire.

Sadly, this is just a few... LOL  Whistling

Glad to hear you are up and going and getting into the fun of it! I can not agree more, if you're not crashing, you're not flying!

As much as your story might be vaguely funny, it's actually quite scary.

You've been here long enough and have asked for so much advice and received so many good answers that you should not have made any of these mistakes.

Not properly bench testing before you try to fly is unwise. When being unwise can result in serious injury, care is required!

I haven't run across one yet but I may have yet to discover a blog on pre-flight checks for new builds and pre-flight checks for previously built quads. Or even crashed quads. I've seen a lot of videos of crashes where the quad was simply flipped over and launched back into flight. Seems like bad practice.

Ah yes, 'showing off'... Doesn't so much tempt fate, as demands it presence!
Windless fields and smokeless builds

Only thing really demanded was the fire squad, lol
