First fpv-vids evereverever of a bleeding newbie
#1

Oookay, I got over this. I'm well aware that there is a myriad of things I have to improve, starting from the quad setup to the smoothness of the controls and so forth..
..but to be honest, I'm still busy with not falling over while flying.  ROFL ROFL ROFL

..and to finish my first video-post,
a mysterious breakup in connection & my clumsy landing style Cry To my defense: It was a really windy day, just before a weather change.. To my surprise, since I was already busy keeping my flying brick in the air, I didn't really feel the wind too much! Except for when flying higher, and, of course, when trying to land without getting a new haircut.. Whistling

Then, there's this dogs-with-their-attached-owners-thing:
Got a short vid of this lady turning up behind the hedge - spotted her on the first fly-by? Wink

You're right, that's how I terminated my flying session: Forgot about good old Faraday and the wire-mesh fence shielding off my RC Confused
Was curious about diving a little INTO the cliff, but there was no way of throttling up to come back out again, *eehhrrrmmm...
However decided to climb over it next time (fence), stand on top of it and let Helix play around in the basin! Already looking forward to thaaaattt!! ..after replacing the compressed bell-housing of one F40, that is.. Whistling
Thought I'd have smashing into the wall on cam, but once more Mr.Mobius decided to have an epileptic attack. Can't wait for the ordered Runcam3 (..at least my local supplier will get some benefit from asian sufferance Cry )
Keep it up, Sir Sloscot!

Great video!... although I feel like a where's waldo episode trying to see the dog owner.

That cliff had me thinking the same as what you report "would there be RC issues over there?"... it does look super tempting though even if a crash would mean a climb (I'm assuming that it's climbable enough to get down if you need...)

Fun stuff, I am glad you uploaded!

..it WAS climbable! Wink
The running down the slope the last meters and jumping onto the stones still can be felt on my knees, but I got Helix back Big Grin
Funny side-note:
It was the first time I was flying with a ground station rigged on a cheap camera-tripod, about half a meter higher than my head. So the angulation of possible reception was greater (downwards, that is..) than the possible angulation of the Tx signal, which was starting off at hip-height, travelled across the field and bounced back on the described wire-mesh fence. At least, that's how I explain seeing pretty clearly what I was crashing into, while the quad was not reacting to my "c'mon, throttle up, throttle up, throoootttleeeee uuuuppp!!!" anymore.. Poop
So always consider differences in transmitting/reception angulation, it can easily go forgotten..
I'm considering an external antenna to my taranis, seen that I've already installed the sma-plug for the antenna-mod. Basically, why not transferring the Tx signal as well to the height of the ground station? Anyone experience with that kinda setup? Interferences? Second tripod needed? - I'm imagining how that would look, a guy w fpv-goggles standing between two big tripods.. - "the radio station guy".  ROFL ROFL ROFL
It's tempting, though, really tempting..!! Tongue

I saw the ground station... I was like "wow, ground station" but then forgot to ask about it.

Does it actually make reception exceptionally better?

..got a Boscam FR632 and run it with 3s Lipos, everything inside one of those clear plastik-lunchboxes with rubber foam and Lipo-straps stuck through and glued in. I can post a few pics of the setup, if you like!
I just noticed that, every time the quad was "behind my head", reception was getting way worse. Thought about it a little and concluded that what was in the way was my head. Metal-ions & Hydrody-apatite-crystals from skull bones, combined with lots of water, are not exactly friends of RC-waves. Now that'd be one advantage of being an airhead ROFL ROFL ROFL
However, raising the antenna mounts to the point of looking like an ant wasn't feasible to my eyes, so I opted for a cheap try at the ground-station concept: Lunchbox was for free, cheapo camera-tripod around 25bucks, about 1 hour on lengthening the AV-cables, though. Result: WAY better reception behind yourself, and another advantage is you can set up the station in another direction from where you're facing! I did my first overview-flight, then decided to mainly spend time in one corner of the field, so I set up the GS facing that direction while still looking the other way for commodity. Pretty neat, everything fits into the little lunchbox including 2x 1500mAh 3s Lipos, which give you tons of reception time without worrying about sucking your Fatshark-batts dry (..another advantage: Fatshark-Lipos last way longer when Rx is turned off..). So overall, I can really recommend investing those few extra bucks and spending some little time on rigging the setup! *as a newbie, that is...  Wink

Wow, talk about super-DIY! If you get a chance it would be really cool to see pictures of the whole rig... it's even more interesting than I was thinking. I might have to get a receiver that I can play with just to give it a try.

What did you use to plug into the goggles? Just take the pins off the VRx?

Great first steps:
- look at the oscilations you have on your motors/props/pids
- fintetune the pids hint look at the bounceback after you do the turn

tip not to follow:
- i see such cliff i dive Smile
All the best
Grzesiek (Grisha/ Greg)

Curently flyable: Nox 5, Minimalist 112

Thank you Grisha!
I'll be onto it as soon as I can end of the week, it's a bit like learning a new language.. ROFL
Which value do you start with when tuning your pid's?
Successful building & flying!

Oh man, learning to fly unassisted (where i am) is like learning how to control a puppet to ride a unicycle, whilst balancing a ball on its head, now you tell me I'm gonna have to learn his clown speak too?
To continue my analogy - you at least, (couple of flips and rolls) have got him to start juggling! Now the puppet is starting to complain (oscillations) and you have to learn how to communicate with him (PID's & tuning) before you can start at the 3-legged, unicycle, egg and spoon, puppet races!

Is there anyone from Eurosport in the house? Wink

Ohh, thank you ever so much!! Indeed, gaa-reaat explanation on how to tune pid's, I'll be on it as soon as I'm back home - can't wait! At the moment, it's snowing in Switzerland, but that won't keep me from flying on the weekend.. Geeehh, I'm soo hooked and enjoying it sooo much. Big Grin
