First Flight with forum member mstc
#1
I met up with forum member mstc to try out some of his gear and to chat drones. I'm brand new to the hobby with 3 weeks of simulator training under my belt, but today was my first flight. Sufficed to say, 0 drones crashed. He let me try 4 or 5 different drones, starting with a 65mm whoop and working my way up to a 4inch open prop drone. The sims had prepared me marvelously. The biggest difference I felt was the adrenaline pumping through me because I knew this time it was for real.
mstc remarked that the sim time had really paid off and it meant the world to me that all that training time was worth it. I was able to whoop a playground and a picnic pavilion, zipping between swings and slides, and i was able to practice some flips and open air power loops in the ball fields.
Really grateful to mstc for letting me try out his collection (and for letting me borrow his spare analogue goggles until my hdzeros arrive). And thanks to this forum for helping two hobbyists meet up and enjoy the hobby.

Hi fpvme, it was great meeting up and sharing some fpv fun. For sure your sim time paid off, I was very impressed you got down the throttle management within seconds of taking flight and flying in/out of the pavillion/playground, flipping/rolling after just a few packs. If I had not known, I would never have imagined that was your first time flying, and even knowing you had sim time that is pretty amazing progress. Sorry I should have recorded some dvr. No crashes, no disorientation, no issues at all, you did not even get to experience the walk of shame.

Hope you receive your gear soon and looking forward to doing some quad chasing.

Flew with mstc again today, this time at my place. He's a wealth of knowledge and I had a great time picking his brain and trying to take notes on the things he was saying as we went. We flew whoops in the backyard around some garden wickets, a pergola, and a dog-play-tunnel. And we popped over the treeline a few times just to see what lay beyond. As I gain some more confidence and competence I'm looking forward to flying into the forest and navigating those very particular obstacles, but as it is I got my mobula7 stuck in a Japanese maple tree and had to use a pole saw to knock it down(first try luckily).
Had a great time flying and learning and I definitely would encourage others to try to find local friends to fly with.
