First build - freestyle FPV focus - advice sought
#31
Couple things to add. As far as solder, it seems that 63/37 is a better choice than 60/40. This is according to Randy from SRA solder, who Joshua Bardwell interviewed recently.

Pagoda antenna is a great choice, and for a small initial investment, you can have antennas for life.

So I've finished ordering stuff (for now). My final bill of materials:

- Armattan Chameleon frame
- Matek F405 AIO FC
- Emax RS2205 2300KV
- Racerstar 30A v2 BLHeli_S OPTO ESCs
- Tattu R-Line 1300mAh 95C batteries
- HQProp 5x4.3x3 v1s props
- Runcam Split w/RC25G "GoPro" long lens
- Tramp HV
- Pagoda 2
- Spektrum quad Rx with telemetry

I made a Rotorbuild page for the heck of it: https://rotorbuilds.com/build/6880

I threw in some rubber soft mounts for the motors and have sent Armattan an email to see if they have any clever ideas about accommodating the Runcam Split.
EDIT: got a reply from Tim at Armattan. He suggested the HS1177 rubber mount for the Runcam Split. I've asked him to include that option in my order.

The stuff is coming from a variety of sources... including Banggood. So the build probably won't start for "a while"... (I hope I'm not cursing myself!)

Thank you again everyone for the help. This is only the beginning of my newbie questions!

Steve

There's plenty of room for a two board stack in the Chameleon, so you'll have no trouble fitting the Split's PCB in there seeing as you're using the Matek AIO. If you ordered the 'long lens' variant of the Split, you should be able to get a good view without the camera protection being in the picture.

Fingers crossed that all your parts arrive in weeks rather than months! Keep us posted.

Yes, I got the "GoPro" lens option for the Split. I actually won't mind if the props are in view, but I'd rather not see the frame.

Banggood allegedly shipped the China portion of my order already. We'll see how much (if anything) that means.

I guess that all depends on the shipping method you chose. I've heard that the US customs can be a little 'variable' when it comes to clearing incoming parcels from abroad, all depending on which airport your package arrives at.

I reckon you'll see the tips of the props in the HD view, depending on how much up tilt you use. The view is 165° on the HD recording but only 130° on the FPV view. My Chameleon has a Runcam Eagle and that's 130° as well and with it positioned just inside the aluminium cage and about 30° up tilt, it's fine. I doubt it would be if the view was 165° though.

All my stuff has shown up! Woohoo!

It actually got here before I've had the chance to get a better solder station. I'd better get on that! LOL
