Well I'm diving in the fpv and I want to build my first quad from scratch I'm not a hundred percent familiar with everything but as the days go by I'm learning more and more. I had originally started with a little toy drone flying around the house and in the backyard but now I'd like to step it up to something a little more fun and first person. So I guess to get to the point here I've put together what I believe is a drone parts list but I just want to be sure before I hit the purchase button. Also if anyone has any better suggestions for what I have picked out or something's wrong please let me know so I can get myself on the proper track here.
So far everybody have come across and the community has been absolutely amazing and I hope that this will further continue that. As follows is my parts list please again if I got something or you see something that could be a little better but still in the price Lanes or even possibly cheaper please let me know by all means

HOW TO BUILD A RACING DRONE (FPV MINI QUAD) BEGINNER GUIDE I would rethink the 4in1 ESC. Much cheaper to replace one ESC when you forget to disarm in a panic on your many crashes learning. On the goggles I would look into the EV800 and EV800D The motors are really new to the market, durability is yet to be determined. I would use a regular VTX. you won't be able to mount the 20x20mm VTX in the stack anyway. Just some thoughts. If you want tie it down, then it will work. If you plan on stacking it, then I would go with Matek, Tramp with Whitenoise board, Lumenier VTX similar to Matek. For Matek and Lumenier, get the MMCX connector.
Everything else will work.
Goggles, I am staying out of the debate.
FC, I would go with a F4 board. I like AIO with built-in PDB. Cost the same as separate FC and PDB. Cleaner build. Current favorite FC, CL Racing F4 or F4S, Joshua Bardwell F4 and the DYS F4 Pro version 2.
If you want to run cutting edge 32K gyro and pid loops, you will need F4 or F7 with ICM-20602. If you just want to fly and worry about cutting edge on the next build, just ignore me. My first advice is to learn to fly in mode 2 if you are in the US. Reason being you can grab another pilots transmitter and try it out and someone can use yours to trouble shoot your stuff if need be. It is easier to learn a new skill than to break old habits. (I watched a Youtube video of a pro pilot talking about this the other day.)
As far as changing modes I THINK you can do it in the channel mapping on either transmitter.
The Q X7 is a better transmitter. I assume this comes from playing video games and you are used to the way you move in them. Most people have no problem flying in mode 2 and playing video games then switch back and forth with no problem. When you are learning to fly you will get used to the controls however they are set. Posts: 1,504 Threads: 83 Likes Received: 944 in 654 posts Likes Given: 2,142 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 24 Hey Root, I have to agree with Lowlife, the taranis QX7 is the far better option for longevity of TX, it will likely have better range for when you start getting adventurous in future. If you are thinking of sticking with FlySky protocols, I would say that the TGY (Turnigy) 9X is a pretty good option. The FlySky 9X doesn't support AFHDS 2A so it is incompatible with newer RX and the original AFHDS system can't do telemetry. The TGY 9X has bee updated to support iBUS/SBUS and is (I think) still compatible with OpenTX.
Just FYI I play racing games (from the original Gran Turismo on the PS1 up to Forza on the Xbox 360) always with throttle on the right stick, but I fly mode 2, it took less than an hour to get my head around having the throttle on the 'wrong' side! However I'm pretty sure that you can change the channel mapping with most TX, the main problem comes from changing the throttle, and having to remove/move the gimbal springs.
