fatshark googles
#1
I am considering upgrading from box style, which I had to modify with 2.5 reader glasses. i'm worried about being able to see in the fatshark style without reading glasses. Aging eyes, anybody have any experiences?

The standard diopter sets didn't work for me, so I got some prescription diopters from http://rho-lens.com/rho-lens-fpl-v2/

I'm near sighted and had the same worries when I upgraded. I had Cyclops V2s which you can wear glasses with and worried the Fatsharks wouldn't work for me. To my surprise I can see the Fatsharks just fine with no help. The cheap diopter lenses made it worse. If they don't work for you do what sloscotty suggested with the prescription diopters. You'll never know unless you try. Just get them from a vendor you can return it to easily.

I feel your pain, I have the old eye syndrome too.

I can tell you, you will be challenged to get lens' for Fat Sharks and their competitors that will work for you.  I went down this road months ago and it was a problem.  Hopefully someone here that has our problem will chime in and help you out.

With that said, have you tried goggles and compared them side by side with the box goggles?  I did this again in the recent past at my local hobby shop.  They had several brands of goggles and all of them were like looking through a tunnel compared to the box goggles. A huge loss of FOV.   Until the goggles manufacturers can make goggles that give the immersive feel of box goggles, I will stick with them.  And you don't have the problem with getting reading glasses to work with them.  The ONLY negative I have seen with the box goggles is appearance.  You look like you have your face in a toaster oven.  But I'm too old to worry about appearance....I go with function...

I will be watching your post to see if you get some help like your looking for.....

Good luck!

Yup, old eyes here too. I'm farsighted and need +2 correction for distance, +3 for reading. One of the guys I fly with actually took an old pair of his prescription glasses and ground the lenses down to fit the Fatsharks. Not sure what direction I want to go yet. I will say that I've tried the inexpensive Eachine EV100's that have individual diopter adjustment for each eye and was able to see fine, just wish the screen was a little bigger and they had actual diversity.

I'm currently getting used to contacts for the first time, we'll see what happens.

I have to say that the HDO googles have been great. No mods at all. My old eyes adjust almost immediately. Best FPV investment to date. Picture quality is awesome

Plunking down 5 bills is a little hard to swallow, when I couldn't see in box style.

Good to hear, glad to see it worked out for you.  Same experience as mine, just HD3s and not HDOs.

I too suffer from OES (Old Eye Syndrome) and my Skyzone V2's working just fine without mods or different lenses.  The only problem I have is that the damn things fog up so quick on a humid day/night.....guess I need to add a fan...... Smile

Can't even use goggles here without one being in the middle of the swamp.  I'm constanly hitting the fan button to make sure it keeps going.  Have to dry my goggles when I get home from the sweat the foam soaks up.
