Now that I've seen how blurry the edges are on the HD2 I'm definitely going for the HD3.

Glad you got it sorted in the end, I've always had a good experience with Hobbyking's customer service.

I would expect a better product when you pay that much money though! duh!
keep me updated on the HD3 Smile

Yes indeed, this was a big fail from FS IMO. I never had such a bad experience even with cheap BG stuff.

Sure, I'll give a first impressions update when I get them, they should ship the 7th of November.

Yes, in general their support was nice and they accepted to give the refund almost no questions asked. The only thing I didn't like was that by their policy, all the shipping costs were on me so I lost almost 40€ in the process.

The HD3 seem very promising according to the early reviews. Here's painless360's:

I received my HD3's today.  Bit disappointing - for me the edges are blurred so either they reduced the FOV and still didn't fix the blurring issue or I need glasses and don't know it.  Probably ok to fly with but would be annoying with an OSD.

The description on the back of the box says "The FOV on the HD3 has been dialed back to 42 degrees to maintain a large screen experience while delivering crisp optical performance for OSD readability."  Think I might order a diopter set to see whether they help (Amazon Prime have them).  If that doesn't help then perhaps I have a faulty pair?

Mine are in transit so they should arrive sometime this week, I'll let you know if I have the same issue. But TBH, considering how bad the HD2 were I wouldn't be surprised if the blur isn't completely gone.

Ah that would be good, I'm actually worried about my eyes now!  The reviews up on YouTube all says there's no blur but then they have been given a free pair of goggles so not necessarily objective.

I gave them a go last night with my QX95 - not bad I think it's just with an OSD that you'd notice it.  I ordered the diopter set which I can return if they don't make any difference.

I lost faith in the reviews after trying the HD2, at most I heard that the corners were a bit blurry but for me it was much more than the corners. Basically there was a circle of focused image in the middle and all around that circle was blur. It gave me head ache after just a few minutes and it also made me wonder if there's something wrong with my eyes, or that it could be a bad unit... I was really hoping the HD3 would be good but after reading your post I'm a bit worried now.

To shed some optimism, I saw some video long ago where the guy was saying that it was weird in the beginning but that it got a lot better after a few hours as the eyes got used to it. Maybe it's worth trying...

Yeah it's just like that, clear image in the center and blurry around the edges.  Can be improved a bit playing with the IPD and moving the goggles up/down on your face.  I've just been using the menu and/or DVR playback to tweak as I don't currently have an OSD setup.  To me it seems like a problem with poorly designed or positioned lenses as if you close one eye and move the IPD you can see the focused area move around the screen with the blured area being around the edges. It feels like the lenses need to be larger to avoid the image of the LCD being distorted in the corners.  If I had brought the HD2's then I would have expected this but based on the HD3's product description what I currently see is not acceptable.  Will try the diopters and wait to see what yours are like before I start complaining to Fatshark.

I don't have much to compare against as my other 'goggles' are the Quantum V1 which to be fair has a pretty clear image just very bulky and uncomfortable.  If I can't get on with these I'll have to return them or sell on eBay and try some Skyzone's instead.

I made my own foam on the faceplate of the HD2 so I could adjust it to my face. I noticed that the closer I could get my eyes to the lenses, the less blur I experienced. It's not perfect, but atleast it is better than the stock faceplate foam. I know there is a thin version of the foam also, but it was just too uncomfortable for me. I used a strip of foam with adhesive from a departement store

It does seem less of a problem the harder you push the goggles in to your face. Perhaps they're designed for people who's eyes bulge out of their heads.

Will get my wife to try them out tonight and see what she thinks.

That's a cool tip, do you have somewhere a photo of your mod?

The HD3 should come with a thiner foam, is that the one you're using?

Haha I hadn't thought about that  Rolleyes

I tried the thinner foam but it's not comfortable and lots of light leakage.  Not sure it puts your eyes much closer tbh but I'll give it another go.  Will also get my wife to try them out later, if it's my eyes she shouldn't see the blurring.

Got mine today and I can confirm there's still a bit of blur around the edges. It's nowhere nearly as bad as the HD2 so I'll keep them but still something to consider for people looking for new goggles.

The picture is nicely sharp in the middle and if I position them right on my face it's also good enough at the bottom where I have the important OSD stuff. But anything placed in the corners or at the top 3% of the screen is hard to see/read.

Fun fact, the HD3 look the way I expected the HD2 would, guess that's why I'm OK with it.

Well that's the thing, these look how I expected the HD2 would look.  The fact that I've paid a lot more than I would have for the HD2 means I'm not OK with it.

Fatshark have really done themselves over by saying "The FOV on the HD3 has been dialed back to 42 degrees to maintain a large screen experience while delivering crisp optical performance for OSD readability."  This leads me to expect that I should be able to read 'crisp' OSD text on any part of the screen without blurring and having to strain my eyes.  The fact that I can't means that either I have a dud pair or the claims made in the product description are false.  It's odd as Youtube reviews claim they are absolutely clear all round.

You might think I'm being picky but honestly there's not much to these.  A bit of plastic and foam, a couple of cheap LCDs and $10 of electronics.  For £450 the optics should be spot on.  My eyes are good and I don't want to damage them by having to strain to read blurred text etc.  My wife tried them last night and she said the same thing, she couldn't get the text at the sides focused while keeping the center focused no matter how much she moved them around or adjusted the IPD.  It's just as bad when using the HDMI input for 'FPV Freerider' which I'm surprised about as the field of view is reduced in 16:9 mode so I'd expected it to be better.

Sending these back today.  Based on what you've said the supplier is probably going to claim these are 'normal'; then the hassle begins  Cry
