FatShark Dominator HD3
#1
The HD3 are now up on GetFPV. There's no price yet, just a note saying that they will be available for pre-order soon.
They look exactly like the HD2 and it seems that the only real upgrade (if we can call it an upgrade Big Grin ) is the reduced field of view to help with the image sharpness that was such an issue with the HD2.

Details
The Dominator HD3 is the newest FPV video goggle in the Dominator HD series from Fat Shark . These video goggles allow for first-person viewing (FPV) of the video downlink from the wireless transmitter on your RC aircraft for a truly immersive flying experience.

The FOV on the HD3 has been dialed back to 42 degrees to maintain a large screen experience while delivering crisp optical performance for OSD readability. Digital pilots will appreciate the new 16:9 display format when in HDMI mode to match the display aspect ratio of HD systems.  HD3 ships with new lower profile Velcro backed (removable) faceplate foam for a more accommodating fit.  The HD3 is the most powerful, versatile and portable FPV goggle and the top choice of drone pilots.

I heard it's 16:9 and 4:3 switchable, pretty similar spec to the HDv2. Someone tried the prototype (i think it was final glide) and said although FOV is smaller in the spec but it's hard to tell when wearing it.

Switching between 16:9 and 4:3 will make the goggles more versatile and will bring the HDs into the aerial photography territory without bailing on FPV pilots that prefer 4:3. A very smart move IMO if it turns out to be true.

I wonder if this means that there won't be a Dominator v4 though, since I haven't seen any rumors about that.

16:9 and 4:3 should be easily done, which is already pretty common one many LCD screens...
I would rather see drop in price for the future version... they are so expensive making upgrade pretty much impossible (unless you can sell your current goggle at a decent price)

Edit: not switchable, 16:9 only in HD, when using analogue video only 4:3

Seems that some of the previous rumours may be true: Link

Edit: FS has taken the information from the public website and moved it to the private area but the information that was there before can be found on the 1st post of this thread.

TH HD3 are up on GetFPV so we can say that they have been announced Smile

It's not a big upgrade but they did listen to people's complains about the HD2 and addressed those issues.

at least they fixed the blurry edges Smile
but to me it's too little to call it an upgrade cause it sounds more like a bug fix from previous version

That's right Oscar, it does seem like a bug fix release Big Grin

I was waiting for these to jump into the FS wagon and seen the specs I'm actually considering the HD2 as the price has dropped a bit during the past few weeks.
The only general complain people seem to have about the HD2 is the blurry edges - is it so bad to be a deal breaker and justify the extra ~150€ the HD3 will cost?

I also have a few dead pixels after few months of use on HD2.

Andrey, I remember you commented on a different thread that you're not happy with the HD2.
Considering the small change in specs of the HD3 and the price difference - 530€ for HD3 here and 404€ for the HD2 on hobbyking - would you still recommend to get the HD3 instead?

if after few months it should be still under warranty... and frankly if a product of such $ has bad pixels after few months... something there is not correct.

Not all dead pixels are under warranty and you need more than 3 (quite reasonable I'd say).

I could live with 3 dead pixels when flying, although in simulator they are much more noticeable due to less realistic image. It's now 10 months since I've purchased mines.

What is the alternative? I would probably still get them as I like the form-factor and large LCDs compared to other models on the market, but the edge blur is sometimes freaking me out. If you accidentally move the goggles on your head while flying, you may have a hard controlling your aircraft with overall-blurry image. I've crashed a few times that way. I wish the clarity of DomHD2 image wasn't so dependent on how well aligned they are on your nose :-(

sooo i can spend 530 Euro and have up to 3 bad pixels from day one... and this is ok ? wow... i'm quite disappointed, this kind of approach i would expect in the 90's maybe early 00's when lcd were faulty and bad pixels were nightmares... but we are in middle of 2016, and QC can catch it.. if not this is bad QC.

what i really like is the form factor of fatsharks... much less space than bulky monitor.

Also the LCDs are of pretty moderate quality, they suffer from ghosting which may be noticeable when using an OSD. FatShark really should move to OLED screens, they are readily available in such small sizes.
