Fake Leaded Solder
#1
I bought solder twice this month, both came labelled as 60/40 (tin/lead) solder but actually are lead free solder.
Lead-free solder make soldering so much harder as they have a higher melting temperature and solidify much slower.

Have you guys experienced similar issues with ordering solder? I have only just put in a order again for a brand name, hopefully I'll get the real thing this time Big Grin LOL

That is why I buy mine in a hardware store. Always the same brand (I bet it is just some generic chinese stuff). Because it just works Wink

But the title is a "WTF generator" - how solder can be fake?! Big Grin
Find me on Youtube and Instagram. I currently fly: DRC Aura, NOX5R, Minimalist 112 and drive a scrap RC car

Why do you need to buy solder at all? I have some reels of Kester and don't think I'll have to order more in my life.

I couldn't find any in the UK with reasonable price. The only one I found was 3 times the price sold in the US LOL Big Grin

Have you tried CPC? I use them as they are local to me but they do free delivery on orders over £5 :-)

So wait... Its base enough that we have to watch out for component clones like FCs and Cameras etc.. But now solder too? Doh

Definitely a bummer Oscar. Better luck on the next one!

I have a roll of solder from a "local store" which works great, very easy to solder. I was curious about all this talk about lead free solder being PITA to solder with, and I ordered a 60/40 from Banggood. That must be the worst solder I have ever used... I guess it was fake as well Tongue

This is the solder I use containing 99,3 % tin and 0,7 % copper according to the link:
