F3 Flight Controller Acro 6 DOF/Deluxe 10 DOF for Multirotor Racing
#1
I have this Flight Controller:
F3 Flight Controller Acro 6 DOF/Deluxe 10 DOF for Multirotor Racing
Which uses cleanflight. When connecting to cleanflight it tells me it has old software on it and I tried to install some new version. Honestly don't know what I'm doing and what software version it would need. It keeps telling me connection got lost or it failed to install the software.

A lot of things it tells me to do, but don't know half of what they ask. I don't see a boot button on the FC. The red LED is flashing which is a bad sign I guess. If anyone has done this before. Some help would be great.

DOwnload the SP Racing F3 manual. In there it will tell you how to flash it. Sounds like you need to start in boot loader mode. Youll see 2 pads on the FC that say BOOT next to them. Solder them together with a wire & follow the steps in the yellow recovery section in your screenshot above.

Here is where you should download the manual: http://seriouslypro.com/files/SPRacingF3...latest.pdf

There should be no need to use the boot pins unless it has been flashed with the wrong firmware.

Flashing didn't work.
I tried installing the SMT32 drivers through the Zadig program(as it says in the yellow instructions). It gave me the message it worked. When I tried connecting it still said it failed to open the serial port. Flashing still doesn't work. Now, when I try to flash it doesn't say anything anymore. AAAND, pressing the flash button opens a tab in chrome now :p

why does it have to come with outdated stuff.. *sigh*

Sorry, but that's Windows for you. This is one of the reasons I don't use Windows any more.

You don't need to use Zadig to flash the SP Racing F3 as it uses a USB-Serial bridge chip and does not use DFU mode for flashing, or a Virtual Comm Port either.

Hopefully someone else who does use Windows will be able to assist you.

I also tried using ImpulseRC driver fixer, but that program just doesn't find the flight controller when it is connected. Boot mode or not.

When you plug it in, what does your device manager show? Are there any devices with a yellow exclamation mark?

The FC should appear as a serial port driven by the CP2102 driver.

Didn't have time to check until now.

Yeah, that really doesn't tell me a thing.

There's nothing wrong with your flight controller, only your Windows and I don't run Windows 10 on anything and never will. Therefore, I can't offer to teach you how to solve driver problems on it.

Sorry.

Ok, thanks for keeping an eye on it. Would it help trying to install the older version of cleanflight? Since it said it is outdated.

You need to be able to talk to the flight controller. It doesn't matter which firmware the flight controller is running, the drivers needed for Windows so that the configurator can communicate with the flight controller are the same, regardless of which version of firmware or which version of the configurator you are using.

It might be something really simple that's wrong, but without being able to take control over your computer and actually poke around a bit, there's not really much I can do to help. Is there anyone you know who is also into quads or computers that could help you? Or a local flying club?

I've found a video where the guy mentioned that you could mess it up by removing a certain driver. So I'll check how I can reverse that possible mistake and then I should be able to follow the proper update procedure. I got time tomorrow so I'll update then.

I've installed the old cleanflight version and that worked. Would I be able to upgrade it through the older version to make it work with the latest one?

I think you need the latest version of the Cleanflight configurator for the new releases and an older version for the old releases.

There's a thread here that helps you install both old and new versions of the configurator side by side.

Yes. I can confirm that.

Personally, once I was able to get my brushed SPRacingF3EVO FC's to communicate with my PC (w/ Zadig). It was easy to flash it with the latest firmware from the newer CF configurator (2.0.3). If you wanted to.
