F3 brushed board salvageable?
#1
I have a NAZE32_brushed that I was trying to solder the battery leads on and splattered soldered on the legs of the processor. Trying to clean it up one thing led to another and 12-15 of the components slid off. I’ve never really messed with surface mount and I was trying to heat gun it to draw up the solder. I managed to get everything back in place except what I think is the gyro chip, which has legs that are up underneath so I have no idea how I could get it back in place and a few of its traces are lifted now anyway. Would the board work at all without it? Maybe as a flight controller for a little fixed wing or anything like that? I haven’t plugged it in yet to see if everything works because the usb got some solder inside it or something when I put it back on and I have to put a new one on it. If not it can be a donor board I guess but I got so far with it I’d like to claim some sort of victory if I can.

The Gyro chip is a very important part of the board without which there is not my Flight Control.

If you have a few lifted pads under the Gyro chip then you should probably toss it in the scrap parts bin.

You could still use the FC as a BEC or connect any serial devices but it’s probably not going to function as a flight controller.

Ok thank you I guess that’s what I’ll do. You mentioned the BEC could still work or it could function as a BEC…

I actually do need a BEC to add dvr to my fat sharks. Which components specifically would I need to harvest or could I just use the entire board? I don’t know if the whole thing will fit inside the goggles and I’d like to hang on to the mosfets for future repairs so I’d rather not just use the whole board if possible

Unless you can make your own PCB, salvaging individual surface mount components to make a BEC is not going to be of much use.
