ESC signal and ground wire question.
#1
Hello,

My ESC came with signal wire and ground wire as twisted wire. I have been flying without connecting that ground wire.
Recently, I found out that its a good practice to connect that ground wire.

My ESC signal wires are connected to a small connector in FC.
That same connector has 5v and ground, which I think is used to power the flight controller. And I am planning to use that 5v and gnd pins to power the flight controller from PDB 5V BEC.
Can the ESC ground wires also can be connected to above ground?

Thanks.

The answer is yes.

You can actually use any ground pad on the board as they are all connected to the dame ground plane. However, because the signal and signal ground wires should ideally be twisted together, then the closer to the signal pad you solder the signal ground wire the better. On PDBs, if there is no dedicated signal ground pad then most people just piggy back the wire onto the main power GND pad for the ESC.

@SnowLeopardFPV: "because the signal and signal ground wires should ideally be twisted together"

Is that for neatness reasons, or is there some physics benefit to that?

It is supposed to better shield the signal from outside interference. Plus it is neater.
