unboxing
Arrival in packaging usual trash bag ...

In the garbage bag, the box is well protected.
Warning that a US / EU adapter is slid into the bag ... do not forget to get out before discarding packaging[Image: 1f609.svg]

The box out of its protective layers.
Eachine remains true to its packaging ... everything is already knowledgeable about the box.

They are called VR PRO D2 and the words found there "upgrade" on the box ... why? I guess that's to say it's improved VR classic D2.

We will not fail to notice the affixed label indicates that this is not a toy! and that it is not suitable for children under 14 years.
The masks, goggles and other immersion devices tend to damage / eye strain ... especially our children developing.

Upon opening the box, first layer is revealed the manual. READ imperative course !!!

Second layer, lifting the cardboard underneath the manual, are mosses that it will stick to the outline of the mask.
They are not glued automatically to let you choose between two different textures.
Found égallement a sticker velvet species which stick at the cutting of the nose.

Located in foams to apply our baby is well packed and accessories.

In the zip pouch containing the battery, it is also the antennas for the mask (a patch and a clover leaf) and a cleaning cloth (impregnated with a cleaning lotion and dried to complete the cleaning job).

Overview
Front view of the mask.
Located on the front of the mask in the central portion of the top, the power cable on which the battery we will connect.
Just behind it is that distinguishes the opening in which it will insert a Micro SD card.
The micro sd is not supplied with the VR PRO D2; it is for you to provide it.

The mask of the control panel is located in front.
With a little practice you can easily reach navigate / activate the options without removing the mask.
As two small horns, on top and on each side, include the antenna connectors RP-SMA.

Left side view of the mask.
These include, as on the right side, the setting that allows the lens forward or back to best adapt the image to your view.

Right side view of the mask with the same lens setting.

View of the back of the mask.
The cable that connects the battery is kept in a passage of the headband, it saves he walks around like some masks.
This is behind it will sticking foams received for better wearing comfort and dimming of light.

Bottom view of the mask.
There is a thread, the standard size 1/4, for attaching to a tripod.
If we want to grow a little messing with a 1/4 inch adapter to GoProWe could easily have fun to ride a sports camera or other device beneath the mask.

The transformer received to charge the battery is received in the standard connectors in US.
Hence the need to be careful not to throw the US / EU adapter that was placed in the main pack.
The voltage operation range is very wide which allows use both US than EU.

Here are the specifications of the transformer.
Li-Ion Charger with 8.4V 1000mA output (1A).
The + is at the center of the connector, the - is on the periphery of the connector.

The battery supplied, the same as that of the mask Eachine Goggle TWOIs 18650 2200mAh.
It is just 2x 18650 2200mAh batteries in series.
It will provide maximum autonomy to the mask but do not forget that a large bright screen and a diversity receiver that tutte amps[Image: 1f609.svg]

The clover leaf antenna and the patch antenna provided are the same as those of Eachine Goggle TWO
They are simply very effective ...[Image: 1f642.svg]

The antennas do not have a specific position you can change the room for your convenience.
If you start your mask without the antennas, do not worry .. it is the equivalent of a radio, it fears nothing!
By cons never forget to mount an antenna on a video transmitter or he may do a little magic smoke and / or being irreversibly damaged ...

The head strap which is fixed on three points for an optimum maintains, at the rear, there is an elastic zone in which it will slide the battery.
The elastic firmly maintains ... for now ... to see if over time it will not "let go" and let out the battery.

Left foams that will be placed around the edges of the mask, right velvets that will be placed instead of the nose.

For foams there are two textures, you would place the one that suits you best.
Personally I opted for the thickest which ensures better wearing comfort and provides better insulation to ambient light.
As for the velvet which is placed in nose height, it is the same two so one or the other is perfect.

The port is relatively nice, the weight is correct and not too tired neck.
But it was not specially to our advantage by wearing this mask: p

From the next menu
Li-Ion One branch, there are up to 4 and the mask is ready to run!

Pressing the "MENU" button opens OSD.
It moves with the "+" and "-", is valid (enters a menu) via the "MENU" button, you exit via the button 'CAM / DVR / QUIT "
The first tab allows you to make basic adjustments on the perceived image on the screen.
Located in the strip at the bottom, there is the currently used standard display and the firmware version (I am in PAL)

The second tab to change the display standard PAL or NTSC, ABCDE quick pages are inputs to the different bands of the receiver.
5 x 8 channels = 40 channels .. Quick and easy access if you know your frequency and to recover from the first glance.
Apart from the settings menu, you can search your frequency with the "+" or "-" .. or launch a "SCAN"

The third tab is the one that allows for the settings on the OSD.
If you prefer to have the menus in English, it is in the "Language"

The fourth menu named "CISO" to select the mode of reception or receiver.
Indeed, you can choose only the receiver 1 or receiver 2, and so do not use diversity.
It is also in this menu you will need to run the calibration of RSSI (important to have a correct and realistic display RSSI signal)
There are the last option the option to run a scan of all channels and visualize by a display to the analyzer so as spectrum (and gives us the frequency on which the strongest signal is received)

A scan of the band (spectrum analysis) takes 25sec.

Last tab functions.
Makes a rebate has zero parameters, choose how you want to display (16: 9 or 4: 3), etc ..

If you want to have a somewhat clearer picture of the menus, it is well detailed in the manual.

the DVR
Pressing the menu button 'CAM / DVR / QUIT "pass DVR mode mask; ie you always display as standard mode but you can simultaneously record what you see.
Please note that in this mode I see a significant latency !!!
If you now press the "+" mask starts recording.
A new press on the "+" key stops recording.
An alternative to not be bothered by the lag during the flight is to move the mask in DVR mode, start recording and return to camera mode ... Once finished the flight must return to DVR mode and stop recording.

To enter the DVR menu, you have to stay long press the "DVR MENU" button.
Please note that pressing the "MENU" will display the OSD settings in parallel (must differentiate "MENU" to "DVR MENU."
First tab DVR basic settings with the recording mode (quality) that will be:
  • VGA: 640 x 480
    autonomy 02h19m44s record with a 4GB card

  • D1: 720 x 480
autonomy 01h22m24s recording with 4GB card

  • HD 1280 x 720
01h11m25s recording of battery life with a 4GB card

The recording quality is really more than correct for analog recording ... provided you have a good camera [Image: 1f609.svg]
Here is a small sample with a swift runcam 2 pending a video of an onboard flight.
[youtube] [/ youtube]
The Sound REC option to record sound with the video (if you have a microphone on board camera or issuer)
Option Video Time will sequence the video for every selected time.

Keep pressing the "DVR MENU" still a long time and will display the second tab.
This tab lets you choose the option to format the microSD card, the language in which you want to display DVR information enables a reset of DVR options (price to zero factory), selects the flicker frequency of artificial light which is the frequency area used in our country (in choosing us 50Hz) and output format PAL or NTSC (the best is to put it in accordance with the mode selected in your headset base settings ).

To review your raw footage, stay long press the "-" button and you will pass the mask in playback mode.
Calibration receivers
Warning this part is very important for optimal operation of your diversity and especially the signal level indicator (RSSI) displayed in the OSD of your mask.
It is imperative to calibrate the receivers on first use (or the next, but it will do !!!)

For your information here is how are arranged according to their display receivers.
Receptor A is left when one has the face mask itself.
The receiver B is to the right when it was the face mask itself.

For calibration, go to the RSSI menu.
Remove the two antennas of the mask.
Turn your video transmitter and place a few meters of the mask.
Select "Calibrate RSSI" (for English menus). A spectral scanning is initiated to the receptor and pressed followed by a spectral analysis to the receiver B. It takes some time (+ - 25s receiver by slightly more than 50s for the calibration is performed)

Conclusion
If you want the FPV without breaking the bank or wish to have a relatively full face mask as a backup or to take passengers with you during your runs, this mask is for you.
However, if you have the opportunity, I suggest you still try it before you buy it because although the lens is adjustable to adjust the image to best suit your vision, for some (like me) it n 'there is not enough distance for a sharp image .. in fact, personally, I have to back the mask still a good centimeter for an optimal visual comfort otherwise I feel I squint when I look at the picture.
Regrettably lack of connectors (completely absent) as input and output, either in analog (S-VIDEO) or digital (HDMI).
Walking through the menus is not the easiest but the menus are clear and overlaid with a little practice you juggle between those carefree one.
The DVR recording is helpful but introduces latency (lag) significant in the display that can be easily circumvented by effectuat little manipulation quickly explained in the DVR part of this article.
Otherwise this is an excellent entry mask with a very good reception sensitivity! The DVR recording is helpful but introduces latency (lag) significant in the display that can be easily circumvented by effectuat little manipulation quickly explained in the DVR part of this article. Otherwise this is an excellent entry mask with a very good reception sensitivity! The DVR recording is helpful but introduces latency (lag) significant in the display that can be easily circumvented by effectuat little manipulation quickly explained in the DVR part of this article. Otherwise this is an excellent entry mask with a very good reception sensitivity!
Questions answers
  1. Q: Can I use eyeglasses with this mask?
A: No. The mask is too narrow to accept glasses.
  2. Q: If reception is lost, should I expect the famous "blue screen" that appears once?
A: No. The mask handles very well signal loss and if you do not pay attention to the decrease in your RSSI signal, the snow gradually appear on screen.

Nice and detailed review from you once again Pimousse, goods job!

It looks from the screen shots of the DVR menu's that it is the same Eachine Pro DVR that they have integrated into this headset? One thing I noticed with following Drone of Prey's 'how to' adding the DVR to Eachine Goggles 2, that switching between displaying the DVR OSD back to no DVR OSD stops the current recording. So to record without FPV lag, you need to set up the DVR options with the OSD, switch OSD off, then start recording.

From the your review, with the VRD2 Pro, you must start recording with OSD active, then de-activate OSD to get rid of lag, is that right?
