E010 what mod to get longest flight time?
#1
I see a lot of FPV mods and such.  but how about just aiming for the longest flight time?  Different batteries or other mods to increase flight time?  I am loving my new E010 and would love to have a bit more flight time between battery swap outs.   I am glad I bought this for my first Drone as I plan to pick up probably a QX 90 than move up to the Wizard X220.  But this thing really makes me learn how to manage throttle to keep the drone at a good level and not go hitting the ceiling or floor all the time.  I really call this a great learning drone. Learn the right way and not with all the altitude control and that.

First real day of flying I managed to get it stuck behind the stove and had to pull it out.. almost flew it out but it kept wanting to stick to the wall so would not quite get out on it's own, flew it behind the buffet, and trying to buzz over my dog she got dive bombed by it and now wants nothing to do with it at all and runs out of the room when I bring it out.. LOL!

I have some 150 mAh 35c batteries on there way from banggood.

Easiest way to increase flight times imo.
Shave off as much weight as possible and (slightly) increase the capacity of your batteries (mah)

Any piece of plastic you can get away without having will help.
...do I hear a Dremel? Lol

Found this but idk if you want to remove the ducting. Or how much the efficiency will come into play then.

The ducts are there for two reasons.  One is to protect the props from collisions. The second is that due to the way they are shaped they help develop lift......they are actually a circular airfoil and the air being pulled over the top of the ducts moves faster then air on  the outside of the duct, creating lift.  All that said, I do not know how much it would affect a quad of this scale or even how efficient the ducts are to begin with.  For me, I would leave them on just for the prop protection if nothing else (I need a lot of that Big Grin ).

Thumbs Up
I bet you can get creative with the canopy/body shell.

I agree with SirDude, to a point, theoretically the duct lip can create an airfoil generating lift... I did a little research into the mechanics of ducted or shrouded props and I think the ducts on the E010 do not have a large enough parabola of the lip to generate much lift at all. If you look at the angle of the foil of the lip and looks as though the lift would be offset from vertical thus working against the force generated on the opposite side. The gap between the props and the ducts on the E010 are so large (compared to the margins in full size aircraft) that any efficiency gain from limiting 'wingtip vortices' would be minimal, especially with the minimal amount of air displaced or sucked in by these tiny props.  Contrary to the previous observations however, they do seem to focus the thrust and increase stability. All these observations made by a someone with zero experience of the physics of aero or fluid dynamics!

Actual experience says 'DON'T TRIM THE DUCTS OFF' The duct struts are also key to the resilience of the chassis, at least don't trim the ducts and then give it to your Mrs to have a go otherwise it will end up like this -

This all began from trying to angle the duct struts (in the same direction as prop rotation) the instructions said to heat the plastic with a lighter, then use long/needle nose pliers to manipulate it, BAD IDEA! Far too easy to over heat it then break the strut which is what I did. I decided to cut the strut and the other corresponding struts out, and it worked fine till Mrs Flippin-Breakeverything full throttled it into the ceiling then zero powered it to the floor cracking one of the ducts in 2 places. I failed to glue it back in place so just cut the front ducts off, 2 days and 1 minor impact later I am grounded (for the 1st time in my life, thanks to hippy parents!)

If you do want to manipulate the plastic of the struts or the chassis at all I would suggest heating the plastic by submerging it into a bowl of freshly boiled water to soften it, a lighter is much too fierce a heat.

Back to topic - longer flight times

This is not a whoop only mod is the 'pigtail mod' to use LOSI batteries, but he gets 9 mins from jjrc 260mAh 30c battery on this vid - (skip to 2.20) Should be more with the 2 prop mod..!

Wow this post is a lot longer than I intended, not like me at all Whistling

edit to add : Just realised it does have the 2 prop mod!

...or you could just get higher capacity batteries like the mylipo.de 205mAh.  (You'll need to change the battery connector on the stock FC and modify the battery compartment a bit.)

Here's a little video where I did that (disregard all the other mods - you can do just the battery mod).

As has been said here, the battery is going to be your biggest improvement.

Why not take off the top shell, is it really necessary?

Have anyone tried these batteries? are they better than the eachine 150mah upgrade batteries? I got the E010 with 59000KV racerstar motors and would like it to be a bit more punchy.

Not yet, but I'll sure give the 250's a try when they get back in stock - thanks for the link!

Thanks I would like to know what the results are with the larger batteries.  What type of flight times you are getting.  Yeah that is a good idea to remove the shell one side already came unfastened once so easy enough to do.
