DSM2 receiver help
#1
Hey guys! I crashed recently (Don't we all) and bent one of my props. It was still spinning and it took out now of the antennas from my RX. I was using a flysky RX but I would like to start using my DX6i, but it only runs DSM2. What is a good cheap RX for a 250 size quad? Or would it be better to just get another fkysky RX and stick with that.

Thanks guys!

I use this with my DX6i http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...iver_.html

The antennas are brittle so they can break easily.
Current quad: ZMR 250 / DYS SE2205 / Littlebee 20A ESCs / Drone Lab 1500 4S / Naze32 Rev5 / BF 2.7.1
FPV: Runcam Skyplus / Aomway 200mw VTX / Fatshark DomV1

I use lemon-rx satellites on all of my quads. I've used both of the ones linked below - work great!

Other places carry them as well.

Would this lemonrx be good? http://www.lemon-rx.com/index.php?route=...uct_id=118
I'm already using PPM on my quad so this one would be plug and play for me.

A review of it seemed pretty great! And I like that the antennas are short so I can't hit them with my props again.

It should be fine.  I think I would range check it without the satellite (probably don't need the sat).  Then you can save the satellite and use it alone w/serial_rx on your next quad - most boards I've seen support spektrum (lemon-rx) satellites.  FWIW, you could get 3 satellites for the price of that one - just sayin'..... I can connect a satellite directly to my board (SPF3 Evo) Would it be better to just use a satellite?

Not sure about "better" - but it *is* lighter.  It works for me, but I fly pretty conservatively so far.  I'll keep using just the satellite until I discover a reason not to.  I like to use the true diversity version with longer antennas (http://www.readymaderc.com/store/index.p...ts_id=5018 ) on my bigger quad - easy to get away from the carbon fiber, etc.  I'd suggest checking out what some other people say about satellite only (google), and then try it on one of your quads if the reviews sound alright to you.  I would also add that saving a few grams is not worth feeling uncomfortable with what you are flying - so go with what makes you comfortable.

On the product page for that on lemonrx's web sight it says that it is DSM2 Backward Compatible But Must Use DSMX Compatible Primary Receiver. My transmitter only uses DSM2. Would I be able to use this?

Yes.  But if you ever *did* hook it up to a primary receiver, that receiver must be DSMX (but the whole set should also be DSM2 compatible).  The only issue you might ever have is binding.  In the past, you had to bind with the satellite attached to a primary receiver.  But on the boards I've used, I've been able to bind while only attached to the FC.  I've not used the EVO, but Cleanflight/Betaflight has a cli command to set up binding (and I've had to use it on the Flip32).  Since the EVO states support for spektrum satellites, I suspect it might work (I don't know what target the EVO uses):  set spektrum_sat_bind=9 for DX6i (see https://github.com/cleanflight/cleanflig...%20bind.md ). If binding on the EVO target is not supported, you would probably need to get the primary Rx for binding purposes only (but you would only need to get one, and keep it on your bench for any future satellite binding).

By the way, if you do need the primary for binding, you can bind away from the FC (not attached - just need a bec to power the Rx/Sat and a bind plug for the primary).

Wanted to suggest the same as sloscotty, the lemon rx diversity sats with long antennas, directly to the fc.

I assume you're flying clean- or betaflight, be aware there's a catch with spektrum serial signals: the channels will be in 11ms steps EXCEPT the throttle channel, which will be 22ms. I don't know how much this matters in cleanflight, but in actual betaflight this could possibly get messy with the defaults for rc interpolation.

The most simple way around this is:
- use a heli model in tx (which i recommend either way, i love the super easy setup for 3 flightmodes & disarm on 1 channel)
- use the heli pitch curve instead of the throttle curve (program it carefully and correct)
- re-map channels in cleanflight/betaflight to 2AER1T34
- set failsafe in cleanflight/betaflight for aux 2 to "set" and "1000" (or whatever turns off your motors)

...and done. All control channels now will work in 11ms steps.
For airplane mode it should work too, somehow. Let me know if you need help for that.
