Drones aren't the whole problem

Sometimes the negative stereotype and fear of the drone is the problem.

Quote:Initially a routine safety precaution, the shutdown was extended for days as members of the public kept calling in drone sightings to police – who had failed to mention they were flying their own drone around the airport to try and spot the errant craft.

Also from the site mentioned in the article, https://www.airproxrealitycheck.org/gatwick2018/:
Quote:The event at Gatwick was the perfect storm of panic, lack of preparation, fear of technology, political pressure on a police force and click-bait taking precedence over fact checking.

About a million pounds wasted on investigation and restitution, plus BILLIONS in lost revenue shutting down Gatwick for 3 days. All for a drone that never existed in the first place.

And the cherry on top: it turns out the police were chasing their own drones! And decided to keep an innocent couple locked up for the maximum amount of time they could, even after realizing they had the wrong people, all to make it look like they were doing something.

And the event has already been used to create the new restrictive laws.

How long until quad flying is like street racing. We meet up at night in some warehouse district to run a quick quad race before police get wind of it. Wink

I don’t blame street racers in any way.

We keep hearing them say: do it on a track. Track days are fairly expensive and not available everywhere/day/time and the safety/rules just suck.

Everyone knew the Gatwick fiasco was a false flag operation, with the authorities then just trying to cover their arses because of the huge f-up they caused. Unfortunately the fall-out from that has left us with more rules and regulations in the UK for no good reason whatsoever.

We have an industrial estate on the edge of our residential area, and on Sunday evenings at around 10-11pm a load of boy racers turn up and start revving their engines and doing burn-outs up and down the roads which creates misery for the nearby residents, especially ones with small children who are trying to sleep. Local residents have called the police multiple times but they do absolutely nothing about (they don't even bother to turn up and investigate), so the boy racers just continue coming back week after week. Until the authorities bother to do something about that type of antisocial and dangerous behavior on public roads then I don't see that they are in any sort of moral place to start hassling FPV pilots for breach of any rules, so knowing that does put me at ease a bit when I go out flying.
