Dominator HD2, V3 or SE?
#1
Hey guys, I'm deciding between the HD2, V3 and the new SE goggles. I don't know much about what the specs do so I'm kinda stuck. I would like if someone could help me pick which one is better. Thankyou. Big Grin

Since they are my first pair should I just go with the SE ones?   They are about $200 cheaper then the HD2 and I have heard they are about the same specs just less resolution. But the only problem I think I will have is the LaForge case that goes on the goggles, it is a white cover. It wont look good on black and orange, I might just spray paint it black.

Just asked JustinFPV who's tested the Dominator SE and he said:

Quote:Yeah I would highly recommend the SE's to anyone if they can find them available. I've even shown a few guys that use the hd's and they prefer the display of the SE's. It's such a nice large picture that doesn't stretch the image and it has just enough resolution to make it a super crisp image (640x480)

And it's not too large where you start turning your head to look at he corners. Honestly im surprised that Fatshark made it a limited production. They used a discontinued display in these goggles so apparently they only got so many of them and won't be getting anymore. Here in Canada all the retailer's have been told that once there stock runs out, there gone. They've been sold out around here since the day after they were launched.

I've been flying with Dom v2's for a while so when I put these on its like going from a cell phone screen to a 80" tv. I'm wierd though, I still fly with my v2's more than I do with the SE. I'm actually practising with some skyzones cause I'm trying to get myself adjusted to the 16:9 so I can fly with the connex. There's a few leagues here that are now doing all HD races regularly so I'm about to jump on that train"

I'm in the process of upgrading from the Eachine 007 and I'm struggling with the same question for a couple weeks.

Here's the pros and cons of each from my point of view:

Dominator SE
Pros
- Large FOV
- Price
Cons
- No HDMI means it's not future proof in case digital HD goes main stream
- Lower resolution (not a major con but still)
- Limited supply of LCDs means that they may be unrepairable once the stock is over

Dominator v3
Pros
- HDMI
- Price when compared to the HDv2
Cons
- Smaller FOV
- More expensive than the SE
- Over 1 year old model means the v4 could be around the corner?

I can't decide if 16:9 is a good or bad thing. Most people seem to prefer 4:3 but I believe that eventually, when digital HD goes main stream, everything will move towards 16:9 so why not get used to it already?

Dominator HDv2
Pros
- HDMI
- Resolution
- Large FOV
Cons
- Price
- HDv3 will be released soon according to some rumours

It's a tough choice since none check all the boxes, hope this helps you somehow and doesn't make it even harder to decide Big Grin

I own a pair of Skyzone V2, and Fatshark Dom V3 with the LaForge Diversity module. I don't even use the covers on the fatsharks, or atleast on the receiver side. I ran the wires for the diversity module internally so I just cut a little slot out of the original cover on the other side. you could do the same with the SE and not worry about the color not matching. but I'm planning on hydro dipping my goggles and Taranis to match  Smile

Can't really answer that but most stores seem to have them in stock.

The big retailers all seem to have them in stock, as well as US stores if that's where you live.

Ok, that's fine. Shouldn't really be a problem, I don't think they will go out of stock in a week of release.

HD2 is discontinued, and I do not recommend getting them. You will definitely be disappointed by the blurry edges. If they don't do something with a successor like HD3, FatShark will ultimately disappoint me.

There are some rumors about the specs of the HDv3 that mention improvements to the edges, here's what someone posted on RCGroups:

(09-Sep-2016, 01:55 AM)Originally Posted by MrRoboto Fpv Wrote: I finally have the numbers on the Fatshark HD V3's!
Here are the specs:
1. FOV = 42 degrees (4:3)
2. Resolution = 800x600 (SVGA)
3. Cost = $499
4. HDMI display: 16:9

These goggles have greatly improved optics for crystal clear edges and corners, and also address the DVR file corruption issues that plagued the HD2's.

They look exactly like the HD2's same colors, same case, except for a "HD3" sticker near the top buttons... I'll post a close up later, but here's a picture (HD3's in the top center)

I also read somewhere that they should be released sometime in the next 2 months but bear in mind that everything I'm posting here are just rumors so don't take it for granted.
