Does this sound like a dead FC?
#1
So, I posted about my nasty crash resulting in an arm getting snapped off my 4mm frame. I have replaced the frame and installed a new motor and ESC because I never found the arm. So, everything swapped over and I went to calibrate the new ESC. However it won't calibrate. When I try calibrating the new ESC individually, it will make no calibration tones when I plug in the battery. And when I drop the slider to min throttle, I just get one beep. Also, blheli doesn't recognize it.

Thought it was just a bad ESC, so I installed a new one. Same thing happens. Did a custom motor mix and swapped the ESC to motor 5 in Cleanflight. Does the same thing. Odd thing is the other 3 motors calibrate fine and are read in blheli. I haven't tried to fly it but everything else seems normal, only the new ESC is out of sync with the other 3...it starts later and seems to max out sooner.

Sound like a bad FC? I reflashed betaflight but it didn't help. Thing that has me stumped is the other 3 motors act fine and I can connect to them in Blheli. But, when the arm was ripped off it tore all the wires and its possible they shorted, but the battery was disconnected when I found it.

I have a new naze 6 here I could use, but with all the talk about its gyro I think I'll just get a cyclone or something. But hopefully there are some clues here you guys can pick up on. Thanks!

what ESC is it?
Have you tried the latest BLhelisuite?
Do you have the tool and Do you know how to program ESC using one wire method?? https://oscarliang.com/esc-1-wire-bootlo...li-simonk/

Thanks Oscar. ZTW 20a pro. Yeah, actually I just flashed the one ESC with one wire. So I was able to manually change the endpoints in blheli to match the others. I'll know tomorrow if it will fly, but looks like something got fried on the FC that won't let me calibrate or connect to that one ESC in blheli through the FC. Hover test was fine. Just odd how the other 3 connect just fine. Hopefully it fly's, if so I'm happy. But I'm still gonna get another flight controller on order.

So, let me ask you, if you had to order one flight controller today, which would it be? Smile I'm leaning towards the Cyclone since its SPI gyro and now does pass through. No Kiss right now...not even sure I could find one.

cool Smile
as long as you can manual adjust "PPM min and max" in BLHelisuite, matched all of them you should be good to go Smile
no need to do ESC calibration once you have done that

Yup, fly's great...considering the turkey on the sticks Smile Flashed latest Betaflight and running at 4k/4k on stock rewrite pids and feels better than ever. Have flown my old 250 for a week which has 12a emax escs with no damped light, and it was so nice to get back to this rig.

Time to eat dirt. So, i figured out my issue. In my hurry to get the esc and motor back up and running, I forgot to flash Blheli 14.4 to the new esc. The ZTW esc I got ships with 14.3. And I think i remember you need 14.4 to use passthrough. So all is working again.

But I think what threw me off was that the esc would not calibrate in Cleanflight. So for some reason if there is a firmware mismatch the esc won't calibrate? I don't get it but i'm relieved that I don't have to but a new FC quite yet.
