DJI Making their first FPV Racing Drone
#1
DJI appears to be readying the release of their first FPV racing drone kit.
Including products - a “DJI FPV Air Unit” (camera and VTX), “DJI FPV Remote Controller”, and “DJI FPV Goggles”

Will DJI automatically shoot through gates, or do Matty Flip?

With the damage I feel they have caused our hobby... Sad

Great on them, but I am sure it will have all the autonomous stuff that allows 10 year olds to hover over their local airport still.

i like my analoge video :-) its enough to see tiny things while flying. i would prefer less latency befor digital video or probably i will stay with analogsignal as a fashion thing forever :-)

Curious to see what they come up with. Maybe I am missing something but why do most people assume this is an FPV racing drone? If I were DJI I would be looking at all the amazing videography being done by JohnnyFPV and Cinewhoops and try to go after those kinds of markets. Makes a lot more sense to me to move in that direction vs. racing. But I assume we will find our soon enough.

If anyone follows the DJI forums then a "DJI racing drone" this has been on the rumour mill for probably almost a year, so it's not really anything new. It's one of the reasons they've produced a version of their DJI Goggles called "Racing Edition" that supports receiving of analogue video signals.

I agree with that!  I wouldn't own a DJI product if someone gave it to me because of that.

I would think they would go after the only growing market in FPV, long range cinematic.  All other forms are reportedly stagnant or shrinking including racing.

I do not think DJI should be blame for all the idiots that uses their products. They actually make a fine product.

I'm not necessarily defending DJI, but to try and be fair to them, they do actually try and stop people being idiotic with their products by implementing geofencing for NFZ's and limiting altitude amongst other things, but of course all of that can be hacked if you have some know-how and go out of your way to do it.

It's actually in DJI's interest to stop people being idiots with their products otherwise the market will die along with their business. I mainly blame the regulatory mess we are in on the retailers who will happily sell drones to consumers without any kind of safety briefing or making users aware that they need to comply with local laws and codes of conduct (i.e. a "Drone Code") when flying. I'm sure that most people who buy one off-the-shelf have no idea about any registration process (if applicable) and have never even heard of the term NFZ. And unless they are proactive and join forums or go looking online then they may never know. Just take off and fly blissfully unaware of any regulations.

I think DJI probably also deserve a bit of credit for getting people interested in drones / multirotors in the first place. If it wasn't for them I probably wouldn't be in the FPV hobby today because I spend almost a year of my spare time following DJI forums researching their capabilities and trying to convince myself it was worth spending $1500 to get one before I then stumbled upon FPV (I think it was some of the Mr Steele videos). From that point onwards I was totally hooked on FPV seeing how much fun it was I completely switched my focus away from the DJI type camera drone platform to FPV Big Grin

I wouldn't be surprised if DJI have some kind of plans to try and start a commercial DJI Racing League to compete with the likes of DRL. That is probably where some of the big money is going to be with this kind of venture.

I apologize for my characterizing DJI as the culprit...it is their product's misuse by idiots that is the real issue.

That is an intriguing thought about another competitive venue, Snow!

If it wasn't for DJI, I wouldn't be here. I got started on a Spark. My brother uses a Mavic 2 or something, but we fly together and he is now coming over to the dark side. Idiots use things idiotically, regardless of the item in question.

Deal
Here's the Deal

10" 6S FR10-G Long Range, 5" 6S Rooster, 5" 6S Badger, 5" 6S QAV-S, 5" 4S Badger, 5" 4S Phreakstyle Slam, 5" 6S Yema, 5" 4S Stark, 3" 4S Gecko, and a 3S 2.5" Tadpole, all of which are Crossfire.  Tinyhawk, Tinyhawk S, and a DJI Spark.  And projects on the bench....

People have kinda forgotten that DJI actually started with kits you had to put together, soldering and everything.  You also had to source your own radio.  Here is my F450 from 7 years ago.
