DJI FPV drone electronics transplant possible?
#1
Hello,
To me, the DJI FPV drone does not crash well , Like those fiber carbon frame quads.
Has anybody tried doing a transplant of the DJI FPV drone electronics to an aftermarket carbon fiber frame.
Regards,

I did see some pictures somewhere of someone who supposedly designed a carbon frame for all the electronics but I don't remember where now and I can't find them again. It was probably in one of the private Facebook groups which aren't searchable via Goggle.

There are two main issues that I can see with a frame transplant:-
  1. The electronic "brain" of the DJI FPV Drone is quite bulky and would need sufficient protection which would require a non-traditional frame design.

  2. Moving all the guts of the DJI FPV Drone to another frame would then require the flight control software to be re-tuned for that frame. Unfortunately DJI don't expose any of the tuning parameters so you can't do that and would therefore be stuck with the tune for the original plastic fantastic frame which may fly like crap on a different frame.

Another problem I see here is that the power system will be underpowered, since a strong carbon frame to mount that large PCB will be quite heavy.

Yes. I think this and the reasons I mentioned are probably why we've not seen anything. I just don't think it's worth people's time, effort and money for something that will almost certainly yield disappointing results. You might as well just build your own custom FPV quad that you have full build and tuning control over.

.. and let’s not forget the “smart” battery isn’t exactly the easiest thing to also work around

What I would like to see is someone try and remove the FPV system from the DJI FPV drone and somehow implement it into a standard freestyle quad. This would take a lot of work to do without just taking the entire PCB.
