Did I just kill my H8 board?
#1
I just tried to flash silverxxx firmware to my H8 (blue) board, Downloaded and installed drivers, programs and everything including the 'not necessary' GigaDevice. Connected DAT to SWCLK ,  CLK to SWDIO ,  and GND to GND on ST-link, (as per instructions for blue board) opened 'H8 blue' in uVision, built Target, opened 'ST-link Utility,' plugged battery in and connected ST to USB.

When I hit connect the Utility threw an error and said to change 'Connect Under Reset' in Target -> Settings... so I did.
As a result it then changed 'reset mode' to 'Hardware Reset.' I then continued following instructions followed to Target -> Option Bytes, changed protection to 'Level 0' and hit Apply, then the Utility crashed, I looked round and saw that the LED's on the board were off! Thinking surely battery should have lasted longer than that...!?

I closed ST Link Utility, changed the battery and started again, and the same thing happened, LED's off utility crashed. Only now when I change the battery no LED's come on at all...

even though ST util threw the error when I changed the protection, it now shows me the code, recognizes when battery is connected and allows changing the settings. But if I try to connect straight away it says it can't, I have to unplug the ST link dongle restart ST util and go Target -> Settings, this makes the led on the dongle to go from red to flashing blue and red, then when I confirm settings it goes solid blue, and back to red when I disconnect. When I try to erase with Keil the led goes blue again, but it throws a communication error, Tried to 'download' as well, but that also threw an error.

No leds even when USB unplugged, no bind or response from TX input, have I killed it? Sad

HAHA! I finally succeeded!
Found a post on RC Groups that gave me hope... Also restarted my PC (which might have helped!) after re-installing everything and reset all the defaults in Keil (got a different error!) then reinstalled the giga device driver (Oh yeah!) before I was able to successfully 'build the H8_blueboard project' again.

When running ST-Link Utility, I kinda had to race from connecting the dongle to updating the firmware before it threw a connection error, managed to update successfully. I Messed about with the Target-> Settings - 'Normal' or 'Connect Under Reset' and the subsequent 'Hardware Reset' message. I think I was using the latter when it worked.

Finally connect... and dis-connect...

Run Keil (I had the pack installer running at the same time, not sure if this makes a difference) make sure the H8 project is built, Erase... and no connection error, yay! OK, it did throw an error, but erased successfully, Downloaded and that worked too!!!

LED's flashing again, bound and motors spinning, now just to re-mount it in a frame to start crashing and breaking props all over again...!

CesuimSalami said it was a headache he didn't lie, time for a beer and a burger!

Giggitty Giggitty!
nice! I literally almost sledgehammered my H8, computer, and face trying to get that to work with the H8... It's pretty amazing though. El cheap oh Eachine H8 supports PID tuning, horizon, acro, 1KM range AND telemetry (short range on telemetry though.)

It's capabilities are truly amazing and cheaper than the E010 too! I'm sorry not to see more mods for it, a body with ducted props or at least prop guards that don't actually harm the props would be a great start... I have loads of polystyrene / Styrofoam (tray's and boxes of all sizes, proper 'foam-board' is really hard to come by here) readily available so maybe I should have a crack at doing something myself... Just gotta finish painting our rented place, finish sorting the temporary shed that we will be staying in while actually building our new house, landscaping and planting fruit trees. Not to mention learning acro, making a thrust'o'meter(!) for my forthcoming reviews and everythign else going on!
