Hey all, I wish there was a rant setting for the post type cause I’m feeling pretty ranty atm. Living in Melbourne Victoria, home to workers permits, nightly 8 curfews and stage 4 lockdowns. A state govt that initially we all thought we doing the right thing but now the public is tiring of their leadership. We’ve got antimaskers and sovereign citizen BS going on - assholes travelling interstate, lying to authorities and spreading this damn virus. Damn I’m over it. Mrs lost her job due to lockdowns. Families are pressured as all buggery. Luckily I work in the school system as an IT boffin - but in lockdown the role is basically telling people to turn their shit off and on again. Too exhausted to build anything and lost the quad mojo at the moment. Kids are getting shitty and feral - the boy only had a month or two of in class learning as a year 7 student (in aus year 7 is the first year of secondary school) so he’s not used to the language of a secondary school teacher - trying to be that for him at home and he doesn’t take direction well - prolly used to primary school hugs and sweetness, bah! The girl is in year 9, better disciplined but need to be pushed to socialise. Thankfully we are getting into video editing together- she loves how full on premiere pro is. Have told my techs to cover for me on Wednesday, taking the kids out of their rooms (school) and we’re just going to screen detox. Have fun and chop some wood, sleep in, be stupid, make a home video of fun stuff that won’t end up on dicktok, (as Yul Brynner says), eccettera, eccettera, eccettera! Rant finished,... • Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 I hear you. Life has been tough for everyone during the lock down. No outlets. Good idea with taking the kids out. Hang in there. Hopefully this will be over soon. I am in California, and we have the same type of antimask behavior. You can't win. I will avoid commenting, as it is a topic to be avoided like politics and religion. But there are 2 factions in the USA. Sheep and critical thinkers....lots of sheep for sure. • Posts: 1,367 Threads: 118 Likes Received: 1,411 in 728 posts Likes Given: 1,072 Joined: Jun 2019 Reputation: 41 Thanks guys. Yeah this isn’t a rant about the virus or conspiracy theories, I’ve got Facebook and comments section on news.com.au for that. This rant is about the actual stuff happening and the limitations on life at the moment, sucks balls. Im finding it a great outlet chopping wood for the fireplace I have in the house, very non tech and refreshing. We have so many limits on our lives it sucks. LOL, kind of thought the same thing...for that, it is becoming exhausting...no matter what we name it! I have now had a front row seat to what can happen if you contract it. Be safe everyone. All joking aside, this thing can bring about a nasty ending. SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! On a side note, do you get your axe super sharp. And I like all my instruments sharp. It started with my chef knives. But I get all everything super sharp. My wood plane blades, my chisels, and even my box cutter. That is my next hobby. Making Chef knives to keep me distracted from this whole life deterrent. One of the project is to make my own metal treatment oven. I have an old axe from my father, it's at least 30 years old. I had to do some serious work to it as it had a lot of nicks in the blade. First I used a clean file with some light synthetic oil to cut it back. Then I used a old but great cutting block to get it sharp. The cutting block is from my fathers old piano restoration business. Love the old tools, built to be maintained. In fact a lot of old tools I believe were made superior to today's stuff. Sadly a lot of people don't know how to maintain their tools and let them go to crap. • Posts: 3,533 Threads: 265 Likes Received: 2,610 in 1,545 posts Likes Given: 3,893 Joined: Feb 2018 Reputation: 78 (08-Aug-2020, 02:38 AM)the.ronin Wrote: I think you're a little late on the "avoid commenting" part with that statement. Given there is a long history of naming diseases from the locale of the beginning of the disease, I see no reason it shouldn't be the same for this disease. And accountability belongs to the CCP for the carnage they released on the world. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 Actually they are named after the place where scientists discovered them. The Spanish Flu was discovered by Spanish scientists - it oringated in Kansas. The German Measles (which isn't even technically measles) more appropriately, Rubella, was discovered by German biologists. It's origins are unknown. So technically, calling it the "Chinese Virus" is in fact consistent nomenclature given that it was initially discovered by a Chinese doctor in Wuhan ... it just so happens the originator of this name is too ignorant to even realize it. But that's just filling right? It's clear where you stand. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 With due respect to ph, I suggest this thread be locked. I foresee this getting ugly. • Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 Before it gets locked though, we should all be aware that it exists and what it can do. Worrying about where it originated no longer means anything as it is here now. Just be safe everyone. I would be absolutely heart broken to hear of any of us having to fight through it. If you want to share your rant and relate to what ph2t is going through and what all of us is going to through, then feel free. What you do to cope with the situation can help others. At the end of the day, the virus is blind to all race, all sex, and all age. By locale, like I said.....like Ebola, discovered around the Ebola river. Lassa Fever in a town in Nigeria, Zika in the Zika forest in Uganda, and I can go on and on. But keep studying you might get it. But that's just filling right? It's clear where you stand. Agreed! And to call it from where it came is NOT racist or cast a cloud on the PEOPLE of China. But it does continue with how virus' are named, and lets the CCP feel some pain for all the pain they have caused this world. • |
