Edit Reason: Added hyperlink. ) My Cyber Monday sales purchase arrived this afternoon This deserves a shout out to KingQuad.Shop in the UK for a hassle-free purchase and a speedy delivery. It's the first time I've used this FPV vendor and based on this experience I'll probably use them again in future. I really wanted the AF236 1960KV motors for the Apex HD 5" frame but KingQuad was unfortunately out of stock of those and because it was only a 24 hour sale I just decided to settle for the AF227 1950KV motors instead. They do look top notch and aesthetically seem to be every bit as good as the T-Motor F60 IV motors that I have on my GEPRC Mark4 HD5 frame. Hopefully they'll perform just as well, but as Axisflying was formed from ex-employees of T-Motor I have some confidence that they know how to make good motors. These items were a bit of an impulse buy so I don't know exactly when I'm going to get the other parts required to start building them up, but they are both going to be digital builds with a full size DJI Air Unit going in the Apex HD 5" frame and a Caddx Vista going in the Micro Apex 3" frame. I guess I should probably try to complete my (still unfinished) long running Acrobrat 3" analogue build first before I make a start on either of these. Sick. • Posts: 21,287 Threads: 588 Likes Received: 8,978 in 6,645 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 789 Yeah, I always wanted one of the Apex 5" frames but I'm too tight to pay full price for one I've never seen them on offer here before so when I saw the discounted deal I snapped at the chance to get one. I guess it now also makes me feel a little better about the first 5" frame I ever bought being a cheap rip-off cone of the Alien. I'm tempted to get the same bullet proof stack components as I have in my GEPRC Mark4 HD5 but the price of those have now sky rocketed The Apex Micro 3" was just bought on a whim at the same time (it was also on a discounted price). I know it's a heavy 3" frame so I need to figure out exactly how I'm going to build that one up. It's a shame that the Five33 Switchback Zero or HD frames weren't on sale here in the EU because that is what I really needed for an HDZero build. Now I've just created myself a whole load more work (and extra expense) with these two unplanned frame purchases • Posts: 1,843 Threads: 203 Likes Received: 346 in 264 posts Likes Given: 306 Joined: May 2020 Reputation: 11 You are going to like the Apex 5” frame. Its a very thought out design and made to handle some abuse. It’s definitely a frame I’d get again. • Posts: 4,073 Threads: 75 Likes Received: 2,548 in 1,858 posts Likes Given: 3,949 Joined: May 2021 Reputation: 121 Ooooooh. Fun. Dangerous operations. Its a very thought out design and made to handle some abuse. It’s definitely a frame I’d get again. I thought the arms on my GEPRC Mark4 frame were thick. The Apex arms are even thicker. Somehow I think I might not need either of the two extra arms I bought as spares One slight disappointment however is that the sharp edges of the arms haven't been chamfered. I'm not sure if the rest of the plates of the frame also have sharp edges as I haven't cut open the packet yet. Of course I can chamfer them myself but for a frame this expensive I'd have expected ImpulseRC to have already done that at the factory like GEPRC do on their significantly cheaper Mark4 frame. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 Wait till you have to put in the clinch nuts yourself. I have one for months and still unfinished under my work bench, 'cause this frame is one of worst frames what i ever had... I wish you lot of fun with this HW! • Posts: 21,287 Threads: 588 Likes Received: 8,978 in 6,645 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 789 (03-Dec-2021, 05:14 PM)Trupik Wrote: Damn... i'm weird Why all people thinks Apex 3" is great frame? I've read mixed reviews on the Apex Micro 3" frame so I don't really know what to expect with it yet. It wasn't my main focus TBH and if I hadn't seen it in the discounted items list when I was buying the Apex 5" frame then I wouldn't have bothered getting one. There are a few nice Apex 3" builds on rotorbuilds so I will see if I can at least try to come up with something that looks aesthetically pleasing even if it ends up flying like crap I just need to try and figure out what size motors will be best suited for it. • Posts: 4,073 Threads: 75 Likes Received: 2,548 in 1,858 posts Likes Given: 3,949 Joined: May 2021 Reputation: 121 03-Dec-2021, 10:17 PM (This post was last modified: 03-Dec-2021, 10:21 PM by Lemonyleprosy.) I’ve got 1408’s on my micro alien 3”, and they seem perfect to me. I’ve got a full set of spare 3” and two sets of 4” arms, haven’t had any break even after repeatedly falling from decent heights onto gravel, smacking into tree limbs, etc. ImpulseRC also has a no questions asked 1 year warranty on their frame parts, you just cover shipping. I’m a fan. Edit- but, micro apex is 25g heavier than the micro alien. Dangerous operations. Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about. I have been flying my 3" Japalura with 1407's and it is about as heavy as the Apex frame...it is a rocket! 1408's would offer you a really nice power curve and spirited flight. I would venture that the 1507's would be heavy enough to the start to flatten some props. 2004's! Lol, that would be a heck of a ride! SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! I plan to replace the Xing 2 1404s 3800KV + Gemfan Windancer 3028's on my current 3" Sohei with StanFPV 1407's 4100KV with HQProp 3x3x3's. Powah!! lol. I bought components weeks ago as a reward for myself, but then didn't feel up to the build until now. I could have saved myself some $ by just waiting. • |
