So I decided to switch from R9 to Crossfire. Getting the R9 to work was never an issue and I got fport working OK on several quads after flashing the correct firmware. I read everywhere that Crossfire is even easier in the way that the TX can be upgraded using TBS Agent and the RX is upgraded from the TX. So far it sounded very good. Today I received my Micro TX (and a nano RX). First thing I did was to install TBS Agent X on my Windows 10 laptop. Then I connected the Micro TX using USB and Agent X recognised the TX. The TX is not inside JR bay of my transmitter yet. The TX was running firmware 2.93 and I noticed that there was already a 3.23 So I selected 'update'. I then got the update screen and I clicked the update button. Nothing happened! After some more trying and unplugging, plugging the TX I got it to start the update but then it got stuck on the 'write update' step. At that point Agent X would report that it connected to the TX but the firmware was version 0.00. I then found the (old?) TBS Agent and using that I could connect and install firmware 2.42. This version of the Agent software however doesn't allow me to flash newer versions then 2.42. I tried again Agent X but it will do nothing when I click on the update button. I must be doing something wrong but I can't see what. I also tried different USB ports on my laptop and also different USB cables (which all work OK when using Betaflight and FC's). Using the LUA scipt on my Taranis Q X7S I found that the HW version of the TX is 1.03 and the Bootloader is 2.01. I don't know if this is relevant but I just wanted to have the numbers complete. I'm lost. Hope someone can help me out. • Posts: 21,339 Threads: 590 Likes Received: 9,006 in 6,667 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 792 I just updated mine to firmware version 3.23 (it was previously on 2.93) and it worked fine through the TBS Agent X software on a Windows 10 computer with no issues. When I press the "UPDATE" button at the end of the firmware version line, then press the "UPDATE" button at the bottom of the firmware update screen, the LED ring starts flashing green and continues doing so for the duration of the "Start update" and "Preparing device" stages, then it changes to a pulsating amber during the "Writing update", "Verifying", and "Complete" stages. It remains pulsating amber after the flashing process has finished. Is yours doing any of that? A few other suggestions:- - Have you tried rebooting your computer?
- Are you able to try it on a different computer to eliminate an issue with yours?
- Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the TBS Agent X software?
When you have the Crossfire Micro TX connected to the computer via USB, check in Windows Device Manager under "Human Interface Devices" that one of the "USB Input Device" entries is for the Crossfire Micro TX. You can check this by right-clicking each USB Input Device in turn then going to Properties -> Details and selecting "Bus reported device description" from the dropdown. The Crossfire Micro TX will have a description value of "TBS CROSSFIRE". • Posts: 21,339 Threads: 590 Likes Received: 9,006 in 6,667 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 792 I just checked details of my Micro TX and it reports the Hardware version as 1.03 and the Bootloader version as 2.01. So the same as yours. • Posts: 50 Threads: 8 Likes Received: 19 in 11 posts Likes Given: 3 Joined: Mar 2019 Reputation: 0 31-Oct-2019, 09:14 PM (This post was last modified: 31-Oct-2019, 09:17 PM by ShadowFPV.) Hi SnowLeaopardFPV, When I power the TX from USB it will start pulsating in 'Amber' color. It doesn't even start with the pulsating green. I guess it should because I read somewhere that that is bootloader mode. The update procedure stays at step 1. I have rebooted my laptop several times already to try and fix it. I also made sure that I installed all Windows updates. I also uninstalled Agent X, redownloaded it and re-installed it with Administrator privilages. I haven't tried another PC since I only have 1 at home. I'll try at work tomorrow on another PC. I checked and the Micro TX is correctly visible in the Device Manager as a USB INPUT Device. Also I checked the description as you suggested and indeed it is reported as 'TBS CROSSFIRE' Also Agent X reports the TX as 'ONLINE' as soon as I plug in USB. What is strange is that the old Agent software is working fine and using that I flashed the 2.42. So that leads me to believe that my TX and cable are OK. • Posts: 50 Threads: 8 Likes Received: 19 in 11 posts Likes Given: 3 Joined: Mar 2019 Reputation: 0 (31-Oct-2019, 09:04 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: I just checked details of my Micro TX and it reports the Hardware version as 1.03 and the Bootloader version as 2.01. Thank you for putting in this effort so far! • Posts: 21,339 Threads: 590 Likes Received: 9,006 in 6,667 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 792 Yes, it should pulsate amber when you plug it into USB, so that is fine. It only starts flashing green when you initiate the firmware update by clicking the "UPDATE" button on the firmware page. Are you able to do a "REFRESH" of the current firmware through Agent X? Or a "DOWNGRADE" to a lower firmware? • Posts: 50 Threads: 8 Likes Received: 19 in 11 posts Likes Given: 3 Joined: Mar 2019 Reputation: 0 No also the REFRESH or a DOWNGRADE do nothing. It just stays at step 1 and the light on the TX doesn't change. It's really strange. Using the old Agent it works OK and I can reflash the firmware. I then also get the green blinking light and I notice the device reconnects to Windows a few times during flashing as I hear the sound of a USB device being connected. I wish the old Agent would support the new firmwares because as I just tested again the old Agents is still able to reflash 2.42 again and again. • Posts: 21,339 Threads: 590 Likes Received: 9,006 in 6,667 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 792 What is the version of Agent X you've installed? Mine is 2.0.23 which is the latest version. I'm assuming that yours is the same but it's worth checking. • Posts: 21,339 Threads: 590 Likes Received: 9,006 in 6,667 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 792 I have a couple more suggestions. Temporarily disable your antivirus software and/or if you are running through a VPN then temporarily disable that. • Posts: 50 Threads: 8 Likes Received: 19 in 11 posts Likes Given: 3 Joined: Mar 2019 Reputation: 0 Yes I'm using the 2.0.23. Besides Windows Defender I'm not running a virusscanner or VPN. I just now tried it on my laptop at work and it works OK. So I have succesfully updated the MicroTX. My laptop at work has much more software installed which could potentially interfere. Anyway. I'm happy that it worked OK now. Thank you very much for your time and help. It's really appreciated! • Posts: 21,339 Threads: 590 Likes Received: 9,006 in 6,667 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 792 That's good news. At least it proves there is nothing wrong with your Crossfire module which is a relief. I guess it just means you have something quirky going on with your laptop. • Posts: 50 Threads: 8 Likes Received: 19 in 11 posts Likes Given: 3 Joined: Mar 2019 Reputation: 0 (01-Nov-2019, 12:00 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: That's good news. Yes I'm happy that at least my CRSF module seems OK. Now ik can proceed with mounting the nano receivers in my quads. Also I need to do the mod on my Q X7S but that should not be a problem. Must indeed be something with my laptop. Which is strange because I can use it fone for flashing BetaFlight, INAV, Rapidfire module, TBS Agent, etc. Never an issue but only with this specific Agent X software. Anyway I'm not gonne invest more time into this and just take it as it is. It already cost me the whole of last evening. But that's part of the hobby I guess. • |
