Crashed in snow, one 1 motor not working, what's the issue?
#1
Hey I'm new here and I'm new to fpv, but not building electronics.

I had a crash yesterday into snow, I shouldn't have taken off in the first place because it was arming weird anyways, I did a front flip which was fine and then a few seconds later it wigged out and flipped.

After letting it dry I tore down the Drone and scrubbed everything with alcohol and got whatever Gunk and corrosion type of stuff was there.

The video listed below shows you my current status and would love any insight. I don't understand what the beeps mean but trying to figure it out. Thanks

First, its always best if you state exactly what the model details are! Make, Model, Battery, etc.

OK, the motor jigging. Check the wiring from the ESC, the three wires, are they all connected at the ESC end (presumably it is an AIO unit with escs on the flight control board so the motor wires go direct there?)

If they are looking OK, then its the AIO ESC for that motor or the motor itself. Could be either.

The beeps are a normal start.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah it's a 4-1 esc and all the motors are soldered to the board. I didn't notice any bad connections during cleaning.

I think the power of beeps sound normal yes, but if you listen after the motor fails to continue spooling there is another town/beat that happens.

I've only had this around for a couple of weeks lol, but been flying it almost daily a few packs a day.

Is there anything I can do by connecting to beta flight as far as troubleshooting is concerned?

more info if it helps: FC // Beast F7 AIO

the best sthing to figure out if it is the esc or the motor; switch a working motor with the shuttering one and seenif the issue stays on the particular motor or esc. it looks like you need to replace a motor, the motorswitch will show it.

the beeps you are hear are the esc trying to initialize, the procedure didnt finish - it would sound the same like if you plug in the lipo if it would complete intitalize.

i swapped the rear motors and the problem didnt follow the motor itself. leading me to believe its the rear left esc in question as initially shown. i also noticed the stator was pretty warm even after just arming for 2 quick checks =/

does this mean the esc is toast and since its an AIO time for a whole new board? thx!

A bad ESC can burn a motor so I will suggest you refrain from additional tests.

A bad ESC on a AIO board for most users will mean a replacement board. If you have the tools and skills you can find the bad component e.g. a mosfet etc and replace it but this is a fairly involved process and may not solve the problem if the cause is something upstream.

is there anything visually i should see on the board thats a dead giveaway? cuz the board otherwise looks "normal"..

since im new to fpv im not sure if i should be surprised, or not, at how sensitive the electronics can be to some snow/moisture

Visually everything may look normal but some burn marks or bad smell or a component heating up very fast to the touch when you plug in a lipo.

Check this latest guide posted on our forum but you will need a multimeter to test the components onboard an ESC or an AIO: https://intofpv.com/t-guide-how-to-fix-e...#pid164738

dont be surprised xD such things happen, sadly its on an expensive board Undecided
maybe it was something else than snow/moiseture... if you like to stay more save about that, you could add coating to the board by yourself to improve it.

the board you own;beast is as expensive as cheap quad Undecided you might be better suited by choose less expensive board. are there other mounting options than 25mm holes from your actual board? maybe 20x20mm?

#1 is usually the ESC wires to FC. It may look plugged but have bad contact.

Check that ESC guide I made.
But, a shorted burned FET, the motor would not spin. Its possibly moisture or something on the back emf circuit.. check the board again.

The next step would be to try the motor with known good ESC.
