Crap video
#1
I got another riddle for ya!!

So when I use my Runcam Eagle II, either of them, I get a black bar of distorted static across the top. If I switch it for my Runcam Swift 2, no issue, beautiful picture. This is all on the same quad, so all hardware is the same, minus the camera.

Relevant setup info:
Runcam Swift, eagle II(two of them, one brand new)
TBS Unify Pro HV
CL Racing F4
Camera is run through board, so power comes from board and feed goes through board as well.

I've checked the soldering, which seems fine. I have also checked the inputs, which all seem fine. I have tried changing channels, different batteries, different goggles. Kind of out of ideas. The newer eagle was slightly better, but not the usual perfection I expect. Tried jiggling wires for loose connections as well to no avail.

Video is from the fatsharks DVR, so volume warning?

There are a bunch of folks on here smarter then I, but the first thing I would do is isolate the camera and VTX from the board, Run battery voltage to the VTX and the camera. Run the feed from Camera directly to the VTX and see what happens. In other words, take the board out of the equation. If the line goes away, you've eliminated the camera and VTX as a source of the problem. May very well be better ways to track the problem down, but that is where I would start. Good luck.

What system is the camera set to? PAL or NTSC? You might try changing that and the settings for the Betaflight OSD. Often 'AUTO' is the best choice for the Betaflight OSD, it makes some smarter guesses when it comes to synchronising the overlay with the video signal.

Sounds like a plan!! Thanks for the ideas!

Not exactly sure, but will find out!

Phew!!! Alrighty.

Just went plugged the benchtop PS into a used FC I had hanging around. Same model FC to boot.

Wired in the camera to the pads and the tbs unify to the pads. So a stock setup. Worked great. So that rules out the camera and VTX.

Put it back on the original board, same VTX, run the quad from the benchtop PS. Perfect video. In hindsight, before this bar started, I was getting pretty bad ESC noise that seemingly started out of nowhere. Every other flight it got a little worse. Not intolerable, but not fun. So I am thinking some kind of filtering on this board must have got jarred on a rough landing/crash. Any ideas on how to get virtually Power Supply clean power through this thing? lol

That's an odd fault for sure!

Maybe get the flight controller under a loupe or a microscope and check that all the power supply components are soldered on properly.

My man! After the last few issues I had, I started using my benches LED lit magnifier. Everything looked decent enough. Just ordered a 35a 1000uF cap to put in the battery leads to see if it helps at all. Starting to think these boards are buggy. Cannot decide between going balls deep on a new CL Racing F4 S, or just rocking the new Betaflight F4. These CL boards are starting to concern me.

I'd say that there's something adding noise to the video signal but it's hard to say if it's being added from the camera or to the VTX.

There are some switched mode regulators on the flight controller and it's possible that they work at a frequency that could mess up your video signal if the wires were too close to parts of the regulator circuitry.

How are the wires to the camera and VTX routed in the quad? You might be able to get rid of the interference by running the wires in a different direction. Some photos of how you have it all connected might yield some clues.

You could also try disconnecting power & ground to each esc one at a time from the FC and see if one is potentially backfeeding a bad ground through the FC. Video noise in 12v automotive systems is usually caused by a bad or loose ground somewhere.

Woo!! Alrighty! So, after some prodding, figured that the wide I put voltage for the Unify meant I could just plug it straight to battery. So I did, and now clean, gorgeous video is had! However I have not been able to field test, so it may be super prone to ESC noise. But not sure yet.
