Controlling through WiFi

Can u use my esp8266 to control my multi rotor using my mobile over WiFi  ?
May be it's a dump question still i want to know about what you guys think about it .

there are multirotors controlled via wifi/phones/tablets...(look at banggood/gearbest/others) main issue is the range of them around 80-90 meters
basic rc components are easily reaching 400- 500m this is why most of people will go for reglular RC
