Complete Noob FC and ESC ??'s
#1
Hey All,

I just got into the sport and haven't flown yet.  I'm 95% done with my first build and having issues with the FC and ESC's.
I purchased an HGLRC F4 V5pro and the X-Racer quadrant 25A ESC's.

After an hour, I finally figured out how to flash Betaflight 3.2.0RC3 onto the FC....

The issues I'm having are selecting Dshot600 in Betaflight and configuring the ESC's in BLHeli32

In Betaflight I can choose PWW and get the motors whizzing from my transmitter, but when I choose DShot600 it seems like no matter what I do I cant get any response from the motors.

BLHeli32 is another monster:

I think I'm having a pass through issue, but I don't have enough experience to confirm this.
Below are some screenshots of BLHeli32 on the betaflight/cleanflight bootloader with the PWM setting set in betaflight.  Setting this to DShot600 give no response:

.bmp   2.bmp (Size: 196.65 KB / Downloads: 141)

.bmp   3.bmp (Size: 345.09 KB / Downloads: 156)

.bmp   4.bmp (Size: 343.72 KB / Downloads: 162)

.bmp   5.bmp (Size: 364.79 KB / Downloads: 108)

.bmp   6.bmp (Size: 370.56 KB / Downloads: 113)

I can get BLheli to spin up the motors in the motors tab, but the esc overview tab disappears. There doesn't seem to be a way to interact with each esc individually.

Could my ESC's be knockoffs?

I really don't know what to do at this point.  Maybe I'm just stuck with PWM. I thought I had some decent starter gear, but it seems I missed something spec'ing everything out.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  After 3 days of building I just want to crash this thing already. Smile

X racer quadrant also has a non Blheli 32 version that came out prior to the current one. If you have the Blheli 32 version, it should have it printed on the board. If you don't, you will need to use Blheli S. Or get a refund and buy the correct one.

which Quadrant ESC did you buy? it could be that you bought the older version which runs on BLHeli_S... and you might need the older BLHeliSuite to configure it. But they should still be able to run DShot600 though.

WOOOOW.  I feel dumb as hell.  You guys were right. I don't have the blheli_32.  They are S.  I didn't realize they also had the 25A quadrant in non 32bit and that's what I purchased.

Well, They came in the single packs and I already cut them open, soldered them together, and buried them into my build.  I'll just take the hit as a lesson.  I think they'll work well anyways.

I downloaded BLHeli_S configurator and it connected fine to all four ESC's.  I see in the configurator they have firmware 16.2 and there is 16.63DSHOT commands and a 16.67multishot.  I'm assuming I want the 16.63dshot installed.  Is this correct?  I noticed there are other versions on the blheli_s git hub too. Does the configurator draw from that as a resource for the firmware?

Also, wondering if I should go back to a stable build of Betaflight(non 3.2) or leave it.

Thanks for the help guys.  I almost have this thing back into pieces Smile

Unless you're having problems with 3.2 (and I'm sure you won't) I'd leave it, if only for the dynamic filtering

Flashed the latest BLHeli_S and changed to Dshot on the FC and I noticed a huge difference in the motors. Could be a placebo, but I swear they sound smoother against the bench.
