Cobra X goggles serious issues
#1
I got a pair if Cobra X goggles yesterday and straight away have a serious problem with them. I'm using an 18650 for power but even when fully charged the goggles cut out at random moments.

The goggles have the latest firmware version 1.3.6, v01.02.00.04.

The Googles also cut out when I try and change from Mix to Diversity.

Unfortunately I can't find any online help from Skyzone.

Anyone else experienced this?

I don't have those goggles but I would probably advise that you send an email to Skyzone support detailing the issue ([email protected]).

Yes, they do that  Dodgy Not that any of those glowing youtube reviews mentioned it..  Whistling

The same 18650 battery in my FS Scouts last 3 or more times longer than it does in the Cobra X goggles.

The problem however, appears to be that the Cobra X goggles can't/don't use the full capacity of the 18650 before shutting off at only 3.75 or so volts. IE, it shuts off with around half the battery capacity still remaining.
Some warning would at least be nice!?

For now, I power them with a 2200mah 2S lipo pack, where the Cobra X goggles work for much longer and more dependably. But I really wanted to use them with an 18650 like I do with the FS Scouts.
Disappointing, as otherwise they are pretty decent goggles.

There is some firmware that will help all those symptoms you described.
Mine did the exact same things until I updated firmware.
The battery life was terrible, the signal wasn’t locking in etc...
The updates should help most if not everything you described.
The goggles will cut out when switching modes but after the updates you should hear a beep after the signal locks in after switching modes.
Sometimes when switching modes the picture breaks up with lines but gets clear then locks in and beeps.
I find it to work better if I turn on quad first then turn on goggles especially using mix mode.
They do suck the battery life fast and expect about 15-20 minutes of continuous flight time.

Thanks, I've emailed them but no response.

Yes, disappointing that the 18650 has these issues. I'll try a lipo, thanks for the tip.

Thanks for that. I thought I had the latest firmware - Version 1.3.6, v101.02.00.04. Which version do you have?

I don’t think the version number changes in goggles after the updates but I have same firmware numbers.
If you have quad finder and battery alarm you may have latest firmware but if you install the firmware below you’ll have latest firmware.
Go to http://www.skyzonehobby.cn/download.htm and there’s firmware for goggles and receiver.

One thing I had to do was trim off some plastic in receiver module cover because the holes act like a washer and keep antennas from tightening up properly.
They may feel tight but the sma nut is actually hitting plastic and the plastic is hitting top of receiver.
My antennas kept coming loose and until I looked closely it’s easy to miss.
On the inside of module cover under holes there’s a ridge and it may work with stock antennas but not any of my others.
If you need a picture let me know.

The CobraX does shut off without warning using 18650 cells.
Unfortunately there’s a lot of rewraps of 18650 being sold.
My solution was getting good cells from a reputable vendor and these are much better but the best advice I can give is don’t fly below the yellow bars or use an external battery pack.

These cells I get warnings from if in good shape and new.

Some cells don’t produce a warning and calibration of voltage helps too.

I fly 2 5-7 minute flights then change 18650 or I use external battery and 18650 too.

You could have a different problem but it sounds familiar.

I have the Cobra S, bought a week or so ago, and have twice today had the screen suddenly go flat black. Strange, since it worked fine the last couple of days. Antennae are securely on there. I did already update firmware a week ago. Maybe I'll check again. Will go to external batt and see...

What that a complete black screen or the screens lose brightness but you can still see the video image?

Yes, try an external power source for you goggles to rule out if the internal lipo is the cause. Did you get any voltage alarms?

Hey guys
Having just got my cobra x v2s today first thing I done was try to power then by the 1s 18650 lipo. To my horror they didn't turn on..
I thought maybe it's my lipo. Nope tried four more fully charged with no luck.
Only works by external power source. Very disappointing to say the least.
Anyone else have this problem.

It’s not an uncommon problem and restarting your goggles with 18650 battery in them and LiPo pack should get them working again.
I’d suggest updating firmware first then calibrate voltage.
No one knows why they do it but mine still do it and just restart goggles with LiPo plugged in gets them working again with 18650 only.
If not contact skyzone and they are good about fixing problems.

i get a cobra x v1 before the release of the v2, mine worked three times and stop working, black screen, i contact skyzone i updated the firmware and nothing........ so they told me they would send me a main board and a new screen module, i give them my adress and told them not to use national post becouse packages get lost stolen or damaged, and they clearly cannot understand english so they send the replacement parts via national post, after two month i recived a email from the national post that the package was returned to the origin country wihtout telling me why, i re emailed to skyzone and they never respond me again, i keep sending emails and no response, after two months of waiting i send the last email telling that they had to learn english and that i will never going to buy any skyzone product again and f---k them.
I bought from tweetfpv the upgrage that change the powerboard and the dvr hoping to fix the googles, and the same, nothing works, just a bulky 18650 battery charger.
Inspecting the powerboards is clearly that skyzone has a faulty desing in the v1 that burns alone, gues i had to change the main board and probably the screen too to make it work.
I give up with this googles, i am going to buy a new googles, but this time i know exactly what brand NOT TO BUY
