#1
Some of you might know what a big fan I am of the CLRacing F4 board.  I didn't think it could get any better, but now the CLRacing F4S just was announced.

They made it better by adding an extra UART (4 total), built-in soft mount and a second inverted UART for S. Port.

Spec:

CLRACING F4S AIO
New features:
  • Build in 5V BEC 2A

  • Build-in User selectable 9v or 5v 2A Filtered BEC For camera and VTX

  • Dedicated hardware inverted connect to  UART3 for smartport telemetry

  • 6 layer 2oz Copper PCB

  • Dedicated Camera setting control pads along with camera power signal pads

  • 4 in 1 esc socket with external current sensor input

  • Added TX1 and TX6 pads

  • Support External Current sensor from 4 in 1 ESC.
Tech spec:
  • LiPo Input: 2-6S (5V-30V)

  • Power rail: 3.3v,5v,9v,vbat

  • 132A ( MAX display ) Current sensor with 160A PDB build in

  • 6 layer 2oz Copper PCB

  • Size: 36x36mm

  • Mount Holes: 5 x 30.5 mm

  • CPU - STM32F405RGT6 (F4 chip)

  • MPU-6000

  • Full SD Card socket

  • Build in 5V BEC 2A

  • Build-in User selectable 9v or 5v 2A Filtered BEC For camera and VTX

  • Dedicated Camera setting control pads along with camera power signal pads

  • Dedicated VTX connection with along with TX4 for easy connect and control VTX

  • Build in Betaflight OSD

  • 4 UARTS + USB (UART1 , UART3 ,UART4, UART6 ) (Pinout TX1, TX4,RX4, TX6,RX6 )

  • 5V LED strip output

  • 4 motors on each corner for a better layout.

  • Support RX : Dedicated Sbus hardware inverted ,Satellite RX, Ibus, TBS Crossfire

  • Dedicated hardware inverted connect to  UART3 for smartport telemetry

  • 4 in 1 esc socket with external current sensor input

  • Support TP and Smartaudio VTX

  • Buzzer pads for external buzzer

That looks like the perfect F4 flight controller!

Not quite perfect. It would have been nice if they kept the built-in buzzer. Those SMD buzzers are so much smaller and plenty loud. Some will say that with ESC beeper, who needs a buzzer.

A separate beeper is needed. You can't use the motors as a beeper while you are flying!

I'd much rather have one that I can position away from sensitive electronics. They create quite a large magnetic disturbance when they beep.

I would thought more people would be more excited about this FC. Everyone seems to gravitate to the Betaflight F3 and F4. I guess Unseen and I are the only ones.

Just to summarize the improvements over the older version:

1. Added inverter specifically for SmartPort telemetry (no more anti-invert hack or softserial).
2. Changed the vTX regulator from 7.6 volts to 9 volts, and allows selectable 5v or 9v (for those running Unify Pro). Also, regulator output increased from 1.2 amps to 2 amps.
3. SUPPORTS CAMERA CONTROL NATIVELY!!! You can wire up your FPV camera OSD pin to the FC and use your transmitter sticks to access the menu. All Betaflight 3.2 FC's can support this, but it requires an annoying electrical circuit and doesn't always work. With the CL Racing F4S, you're good to go, right out of the box.

The new F4S is $35, while the previous CLRacing F4 was only $30, but the increase in price is surely justified by the features. Frankly, you can find boards costing $45 or $50 with fewer features than this.

By the way does anyone know what the reason is for using 9V rather than 12V BEC?

I'm guessing for people running 3S batteries, when the battery drops below 12v, a 12v BEC wont work (or wont work well).

I'm underwhelmed by the Betaflight F3. The fact that the 5V regulator on mine is unreliable means loads of hassle rewiring my Rebel220 to provide an alternative power source for my FPV camera and VTX.

I'm happy that I bought one to support the Betaflight project, but I won't be buying another one. (Not that I can now it's been discontinued.)

Guys what do you think is it an original or a clone?

It is likely original considering that this FC barely hit the market. Not enough time to clone.

If you are really concern.  Buy from here.

Definitely a great FC. I am tempted to use one in my next build. Its got everything I need and resolves some of my issues with the Diatone SP3

I think the old version was out of stock because they were planning to release this version.

I ordered the FC from the above mentioned ebay seller on 29th October and I've received it today Smile . I'm still waiting my new SBUS receiver because currently I have CPPM only receivers... I would like to replace my currently used F4 Flame FC as I have some video noise.
