2 So in my search to build an uncompromising mini quad I have narrowed my motor choices down to these below.
My real question is why I never hear mention of RCX motors? Their thrust numbers seem to be on par or above some of the best out there and they are cheap.
Anyway, Is the hands down best the Emax motor, or would I be better off with another. (the most impressive actually seems to be the RCTimer motor)
Rctimer FR2205-2550KV
Rotorgeeks 2204 2300kv
Cobra 2204 2300kv
RotorGeeks 2204 2300kv
EMAX RS2205 2300KV
Multistar Elite 2204 2300kv

2 I use RCX 2633s a lot and I love them. Running 5 inch tri props on one setup and 4045 on another. RCX are great, matching much more expensive motors for performance and durability.
Cobras are all-around solid, smooth and powerful but not exactly topping the thrust charts anymore.
Rotorgeeks are thrust monsters, but mine quickly developed bell/shaft issues.
EMAX, I just started testing, seem very powerful.
Multistar are weak, compared to the rest of your list.
For budget, I'd go with RCX, for power EMAX, for overall balance Cobra. Make sure you match them with a good ESC. LittleBee 20A is overall great, except on the Rotorgeeks or higher KV motors.

4 That's a weird list, if I was building a new 5" today I would go with either Emax rs2205 (2300 or 2600), Lumenier 2206/2350 or DYS 2205/2300.
My top choices in the past year has been Cobras and the Emax Red bottoms, I have the red bottoms on 4 quads and slowly pushing the Cobras out but cobras has the race edition that have been solid for me.
But if you look at the thrust difference between these motors Cobra and EMAX, 100-200g per corner is huge. you have people trying to save 5g by not putting LEDs and you're brushing off 800g of extra thrust? Something to consider as well.

5 Red bottoms and DYS are leading the game at the moment in terms of performance, although the Red bottoms have better cooling. Also the RS2205 2600kv kick out 1350g on a 5040x3, very impressive.
Anyway I'd get RedBottoms, DYS are too new to be known if they are as durable as the RS2205's, and the other ones you listed don't produce the same thrust, and the RS2205's are cheap.

30 Agrees with SkinnyShark, CurryCat and Multirotor Army., The Emax RS2205-2300kV sure are powerful motors, Slowly replacing the motors on my fleet to these. Very Happy with them.
