Choosing ESC for Low KV large prop drag quad
#1
Hey guys, I am working on a drag quad: 6S, 7 inch, 2000kv
Any ESC can hold that sort of power ?

XRotor40A is probably the best 6S ESC out there, but it's super large and quite heavy.

The larger the prop the slower you go. If you're looking to go super fast go smaller on higher KV and a lighter frame. 6S on 2206 2600kv and 5x4.5HBN dual blades is likely to be the fastest you'll get. Any lower and you loose the disk area, and need insanely high KV to get the speed. Any higher and you loose RPMs and pitch speed.

As far as ESCs go, the DYS XS30A are a good balance of size and rating, they should do quite well, just make sure you're on the latest firmware and everything is good. The other option is the new Aikon 30A HVs. Not sure how available they are though, but they're really well designed.

What is disc area? Is this in reference to prop size or kv rating?

take a prop ... spinn it - looks like a disk...
smaller prop - smaller disk
bigger disk - more air going down (your quad goes up)
All the best

Right, i thought he was talking about kv rating, which was confusing

I think when "lower" was mentioned in the article, he meant the prop size... which is related to disk area.
