Choosing antennae for diversity
#1
Hi there everyone

I'm having trouble with deciding on what kind of antennae to choose for my setup. Here's what I have so far:

VTX side:
- TBS Unify Pro 5.8Ghz v2
- TBS Unify liniear antenna

VRX side:
- Fat Shark Dominator V3
- Furious True-D v3.5

From what I've read up on, the way to go is a directional and omnidirectional pair. I'm convinced that the first would be a patch antenna, but I'm having trouble with the second. Will there be a big difference between a clover or pagoda type? How important is the polarization direction and should I be concerned about it when buying?

Cheers!

The Pagoda is currently the best CP antenna out there, bar none.

If you are flying on your own in a wide open area and don't expect to be flying through trees, a linear polarised antenna will be perfectly adequate and much harder to break in a crash.

If you are flying in areas with lots of buildings, walls, fences etc which cause lots of reflections, then you will really appreciate the improvement from a CP antenna. The only thing about left or right hand circular polarisation is that both transmitter and receiver must be the same direction, other than that, left or right is just the same.

If you have a diversity receiver on your goggles, then an omnidirectional antenna and a directional antenna is the normal combo. Either two linearly polarised or two circularly polarised ones to match what you have on the transmitter.

I am using the Pagoda from Banggood with this Invader directional antenna, pretty good signal Smile

The whole setup is only around $25, probably the best value combo I've used so far
